Medical Card

    Hi all,
Hope someone can answer this for me. I had been living in Parkwest for quite a while, but lost my job, so had to move back home in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown. My doctor I have been going to is in Ballyfermot. I am going to be applying for a medical card, but it asks what jurisdiction I am in, which obviously is Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown. However, I want to maintain going to my doctor in Ballyfermot, as he knows my history, plus he is my daughters doctor. Can this be done, or do I have to go to my local doctor, that I havent been to in over 10 years?

    Thanks

You can go to any GP who is registered with the HSE to accept medical card patients; check whether the doctor of your choice is taking on "new" medical card patients first though - usually GP's will take on someone who is already a patient.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, he is taking "new" patients. The online form I filled in asked for my locality, which I put down as Dun Laoghiare/Rathdown. Will that cause any issues?

I can't see why it should be a problem. Maybe a phone call to the GP's secretary will confirm that the practice is accepting medical card patients.
