    Hi All
Hoping to get a bit of help here..
So basically 5 years ago I did the first four modules (By night and in college) Child Development,Early childhood education ,Work experience and Care of the special child.
Now I know that they have changed the course (Something to do with the Ecce) But im looking to do 4 more and get my major cert in childcare.
I cant go to college full time or by night anymore so Im looking at doing a distance learning course..
My question is would I still have to do more work experience because of child observations etc?
I just dont have the time at the mo to do more work exp so If I need to do it again I will have to put this course on the back burner for another while:(
    Thanks

First of all, there aren't a set 8 modules for Childcare; like every other FETAC course, the compulsory ones are Work Experience and Communications. There are more than this and colleges pick the ones that suit their requirements.

You will need to do Communications anyway. Working in Childcare is a useful module and you'll need Caring for Children 0-6 too. Look up the various colleges and check the modules they are offering. There is a list of possible modules here. Click on the module code and you'll know by the assessment criteria if you need to be in a childcare setting. The Working in Childcare one is here and you can see that one of the assignments requires a diary.

Edit: the first link shows the 6 compulsory modules for Childcare.

I completed Fetac Level 5 Childcare last year. The modules included were English & Communications, Art, Work Experience, Caring for children, Childcare, Child Development, Early childhood Education, Computers & IT, Social Studies.
I was told if I wanted to go on and do the level 6 that if I have completed those modules in Level 5 I did not have to redo them again and just take the modules in Level 6 that I did not complete.
As you have already done the work experience module and I assume passed it? Then you should not have to redo it.
(This is going by advice given to me by my course co-ordinator).
I'm not sure if this is of any help to you but I thought to throw it in there.
Best of luck with it. :)
