Hi. Does anyone have any tips on getting the cleat rotation correctly set. I have shimano spd pedals with fixed cleats. I currently have them set up parallel to the cranks, and my right knee doesn't like that one bit. It should point out at the toe on that side I think.

I'm having similar problems. I used to have my cleats positioned very far forward, but this makes your feet sore over the longer distances. Moved them a good bit back but now I can't get the toe-in/toe-out angle right. I've got one cleat right, and I am just fiddling around with the other one trying to work out if my knee is still sore from yesterdays cycle or the new cleat position still isn't right. Very annoying!

I previously tried the system of loosening my cleats slightly and pedalling backwards on a stationary bike for a bit. Hop off and tighten cleats in the new 'correct' position. Unfortunately, this has not worked this time around.

i had issue like this before. amazing how slight and i mean slight change can make.
after changing the last time i went out for few spins pain so bad i had stops to rest knee.
mark with pen , marker around before changing.
if not move slightly to where think it should be , makes hugh difference.

OP, if the health of your knees (or other joints) is highly dependent on fine adjustment of cleat angle, you might consider trying out Time ATAC pedals. My right ankle is fairly bashed up and has limited mobility due to a previous RTA and I've been using these pedals without a hitch for a long time.

They're cheap, tough, maintenance-free and require no adjustment. They have lots of in-built float, allowing your foot to find its natural position. But the generous float doesn't come at the expense of secure retention. You can pull as hard as you want on these pedals and they won't release unintentionally. At less than £40, it wouldn't be extravagant to buy a pair just for the sake of trying them out. They've been great pedals for me and I'd recommend them very highly.

I had a similar problem a few weeks back with replacing the cleats on my Time iClics, put new ones on, and despite the float, fecked me knee up pretty well. Having had mega problems with iClic 'partial clip ins' and the latest knee pain, I bought a set of Speedplay Zeros. Bloody magic, job done, no more faffing about with flipping pedals around the right way and fragile cleats ... did 300km yesterday and no knee pain, never once had to think about clipping in, it just happened, sorted ! :)
