Alcohol issue

Just something that has happened to me every time that I drink and today I thought I'd try get some others opinions on it.

Basically, I'm a male in my early twenties and I'm not much of a drinker. I'd go out for a drink maybe once every 6 weeks at most, but it could be a few months between having a drink aswell. Also, when I'm out, I'd only every have about 3/4 pints max. I find alcohol allows me to relax socially and get on with people. Its the day after I have issue with.

Aside from the hangover, which is usually mild, I always have this really strong feeling of guilt and sadness. I've never made a fool of myself or done anything stupid while under the influence because I don't get plastered but I still always feel guilty or saddened by the fact that I was drunk the night before. It usually takes a few days to shake this but I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences?

    Thanks.

Yeah I call it booze blues. I dont drink that much myself (4 or 5 drinks every few weeks), but often feel a bit down after I do - lasts 2 or 3 days.

Alcohol is a depressant - so thats what I put it down to. I generally feel a bit ropey after alcohol anyway (not as in a hangover, as in a mildly upset stomach for a couple of days) so I feel it just throws my whole system out of whack.

Yeah that describes it perfectly, the booze blues. How do ye combat it?

Well the first thing is to recognise that thats all it is - a reaction to alcohol.

Then I just suffer through it, I find that keeping a very clean diet and plenty of rehydration the day after drinking helps a lot. Vitamin B can help as well. Plus plenty of sleep - I sometimes think its the lack of sleep that causes it too - not that I havent slept, but the quality of sleep with alcohol in the system isnt as good as 'clean' sleep.

It kind of works its way out of my system after a couple of days - exercise helps too, a long swim for me does wonders for the feeling of being a bit down after drinking.

I dont worry too much about it because (a) its not a terribly frequent occurance and (b) I know that it only lasts a couple of days or so and (c) usually my stomach complains more than my brain after booze so I tend to get preoccupied with that!!

It's nothing to worry about, happens all the time to plenty of people. Its just a side effect of drink!
I just try chill out and distract myself. Swim is a great idea, or watch some light hearted movie or something.

This is because alcohol is a drug and like any drug you will get a comedown. being hungover often brings on feelings of anxiousness and worry.
I am similar to you i rarely drink as i know alcohol is a major depressant and a drug and i hate having it in my system. when i do drink i make sure i drink 2 pints of water before i go asleep. it really does help hydrate you and the hangover is not as bad.
