    Hi all
I need some advice please. I want to start jogging/running but I can't seem to get very far before I'm out of breath. I didn't think I was totally unfit as I can power walk for miles & aerobic classes etc don't bother, but something just seems to go wrong when I start running/jogging. Any advice gratefully appreciated! :)

Most people give up between week 3 and 6 but do a complete C25K program as a start would be great.

    Congratulations on getting started.

Running, as you have discovered, is quite a bit harder than walking,
but you are not starting from a very low base, you do already take exercise,
so you just need to keep it up and get used to it.

Try the couch to 5k program. http://www.c25k.com/
If you stick to this program, you'll be running in no time ( well 9 weeks to be exact).

    Good luck

Most programmes recommend to alternate jogging and walking which is fine. Try, if possible, to go to the gym as well and do some strength and conditioning exercises (abs, planks, strengthen your legs, etc.). Also, avoid running too much on a treadmill and run often on grass or paths. You may want to try to improve your inspiratory muscles strength (using Powerbreathe for example). The out of breath sensation may also relate to the fact that more muscles are involved in running compared to other activities (cycling, aerobic classes, etc.) and it's a different stress on your cardiovascular and respiratory systems. I guess it's a matter of getting used, don't forget to go progressively.
    Good luck :)
