iPad constantly rebooting itself

My iPad 1 has started to reboot itself every 2/3 minutes today. This has never happened before. I didn't even synch it or change any apps on it at all today. It has never been jailbroken either.

Anyone else had this issue? I'm going to restore it to factory settings tomorrow to see if that helps.

    Have you closed all apps?
('doubleclick' your home button and press & hold one of the icons of your 'open' apps. And close them all)
Sometimes one of them can cause problems.

I restored the iPad to its original factory settings and it is still resetting itself. I guess I'll have to ring Apple.

Sounds like a hardware problem and the self resetting fuse is causing it to restart

Turns out I have to pay Apple €361 to get it fixed.

Yep, 117 days out of warranty.

I've tried everything I can think of. Wi-fi on/off. The problems started on Saturday in my home. It has been using the wifi here for the past 15 months no problem. The device resets when using any app or not using any apps just left alone after rebooting.

I re-synched it and no luck. Restored to factory settings and still doing the same. At this point it has to be hardware.

A €500 machine? I think I'd be suggesting to Apple that I'd see them in the Small Claim Court.....

Where did you buy the iPad? Bring it back to them, quote the Sale of Goods Act and threaten the small claims court as whiterebel suggested. The warranty provided by Apple is separate and doesn't affect your consumer rights. But you have to deal with the seller, be that Apple if you bought it from them or whoever.

Is it not a 2 year warranty in the EU?

No, Apple only offer a 1 year warranty. You are probably referring to that EU directive which requires sellers (not manufacturers) to guarantee devices for 2 years. This is separate from manufacturer warranties which are completely voluntary. Although some manufacturers have started offering 2 year warranties in Europe as a result. In any case, the 2 year part of that EU directive was never translated into Irish law. The Sale of Goods Act actually provides potentially greater protection, but it's also vague about the timeframe.

Unfortunately I bought the iPad in the Apple Store in Boston so there isn't any chance I will be able to bring it back to the seller.

The seller is apple if you bought it there.

I'm not up on US consumer law.
