    **** no.

    Just get this: Panasonic TX-P42ST30B

Only downside is that it doesn't come with the glasses but in fairness, for the improvements you're getting over that Samsung it's well worth it.

Whats the difference between the both?.. I only have 700 to spend on one.. So £600 max and would need glasses..

Well for starters, that Samsung is only HD-Ready which means you're stuck with a max res of 720p. The Panasonic, on the other hand, is Full HD, and can therefore handle 1080p. It's also a plasma screen with pretty fantastic black levels and colour reproduction which contribute to its fantastic picture quality. it is a bit more expensive but if you have that much money to spend then surely you could stretch it a little bit more? :o

Just spotted this one but it probably wouldn't be as good:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-PS51D495-51-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/tech-data/B004SMCEA0/ref=de_a_smtd

I would go for that TV you recommended if I could pick it up else where for cheaper and with glasses.. I noticed a while back boardsies recommending a 32inch 3DTV think it was Samsung.. Forget where the link is though but it seemed to be a good tv also..

A set of universal glasses like Xpand Universal X103 would work with any of the big brand 3d IR tvs and so you can use them with another tv down the line or if you go over to a friends and you can bring your own.

Keep in mind that a amazon.co.uk may not be Irish digital compatible.

That TV you linked to is HD Ready and at 51" you will easily see that it's not 1080.

A French TV would work hardware wise but i not 100% sure, all of Europe uses DVB-T for transmission but the UK uses MPEG-2 while we use MPEG-4. France has MPEG-4 for their HD stuff and MPEG-2 for SD.

The Panasonic I linked most certainly supports the Irish Digital TV standard, it's on sale in a couple of Irish stores but for laughable money from what I've seen.

Going any cheaper at that screen size seems to indicate you'll be stuck with a HD ready model (the LG 42PW450T for instance) but perhaps the lads over on the Richer Sounds forum may be able to give you more advice. If it helps, I know I'll be getting the Panasonic I linked to above from them in the next month or so. :)

Not just Irish shops, some UK ones are selling it for over £1000.

It seems to be compatible with DVB-T2, meaning UK freeview HD will probably work if you're on the east coast or live near the north.

Shows the changing times that Plasma bother to advertise refresh rates, with LCD getting better all the time i guess they need a nice number to show their greatness.

Aye, there's a couple of crazy prices over here for it too, I just couldn't find any reasonable ones at home for it. :(

I guess people prefer seeing higher numbers beside these TVs than a blurb saying "these Plasmas will kick the **** out of any LCD in its price bracket". Can't for the life of me see why of course, sales people can throw refresh rates and sub-field drive figures at people all day long but once you but these screens beside each other, that blurb makes a whole lot more sense. :D

While PS3 games in 3D are limited to 720p(even if some console games were at that or below without 3D), i'd choose full HD over 3D if it was a choice.

Might be worth while keeping an eye on the curry's board here, as they do put up some specials. That's how I got wind of my one.

Hows the 3D on Resistance btw?.. May end up buying the Gears Xbox if I can't get a good deal now as I am not sure if spending all my hard earned money on a 3D tv would be as good as maybe HDTV and gears xbox  But not sure yet..

KZ3, Crysis and Resistance look amazing. MP in Resistance seems much more difficult in 3D for some reason, but it could be just that I'm ****e at it.:o
Haven't tried MP on the other 2.

I don't see any difference in games between the previous HD ready 37" and the new 40" Full HD, but I do on Blu-Ray movies.

That's probably because 99% of games are output in 720p or lower. :)

Prices have gone down rapidly last 6 months or so. LG 42-inch going on Amazon for £589 with free delivery, Freeview, Full HD 1080p 3D.

    Amazon.co.uk

    Have to say, I'm tempted...

Pretty great price for that set, especially since it's passive 3D which means glasses will be cheap as chips to.

The Panasonic I linked above is now down to £529 solo or £596 with a pair of active Panasonic glasses, another great price. Now, roll on post-Christmas / new line sales so I can get a 46" GT30 for a couple of quid more. :pac:

They may not ship that size to Ireland.
There was a thread in BA about TVs on amazon, and I think 32" was the biggest that you could get in Ireland.

My mother got a 42 or 43" Panasonic 3D delivered in Powercity for about €600 a couple of weeks ago, with a 5 year warranty.

Just don't get a Plasma... I find now mine is printing same image to screen when I turn it on sometimes (only if PS3 on though but TV is off :/ so kind of weird).. But over time it may come an issue... I am not too bothered though because at 470euro I can't complain for a 42inch 3DTV which picture quality wise is outstanding...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭cabrwab

Plasmas are more likely to screen burn like that but will only become permenent if you leave a static image on the screen for a long while!
But it will stay on the glass it's normal for a plasma you notice it particularly after a computer/pc input had being used.

Tried a Google there but couldn't find anything on this. How do I find out?

32-inch model is a bloody steal at £413, tho! Amazon.co.uk

Reckon I'll go with this. Any thoughts?

£413 looks almost too good to be true, although 4.5 out of 5 from 39 customer reviews. Anyone have any experience with this model?
