Hi, I applied for the BTEA a few weeks ago. When I was posting the form I asked the woman in the post office how much would a stamp cost for it because it was a fairly bulky letter. She said as the letter was going to Social Welfare I didn't need a stamp. Is this right? I'm getting sort of worried now as I have heard nothing back and I start college on Monday. So can anyone clarify if its true that you do NOT require a stamp for a Social Welfare letter? I'm calling into my local office on Monday before I register to see if they got it but any help before then is appreciated :D Thanks!

I never knew that about not requiring a stamp for a social welfare letter. So I can't tell you if you need a stamp or not.

But it is normal for some BTEA offices to take their time in processing the applications. Im starting back on monday and still waiting. I have called into them a couple of times and was told i just have to wait. I was told that i can still get the dole until i hear from them. Thats the stressful bit, that i dont know and im starting monday. Moving across the country, starting the course, and then if they tell me im not entitled to it. What do i do then? At least if they tell me now, it saves me from having to move.:mad::mad:

u dont need a stamp if the letter goes to SW? ive never heard of that, u best ask An Post directly. I personally, will try hand deliver everything SW related. No offence, but I dont think their record keeping is brilliant. If necessary, I will ask for a statement that they have received so and so to avoid future confusion.

BTEA does take ages, Im still waiting for mine. it dont matter when u submitted it, SW wont process it until end of August, so im told. I phoned SW on Monday: "oh yes, we have your application but we havent looked at it. So expect to hear something in a couple of weeks."

"A couple of weeks???" well im starting in a few days :(. I wish they processed it as the applications come, so I know in advance. They dont have to issue any payment before I attend college obviously, I just need the YES or NO.

good luck (to all of us who still wait)

I got mine in November last year so honestly don't be expecting it to come in as fast as possible. It varies quite a lot.

Posting to Social Welfare is FREEPOST.

RE: BTEA Application: Best to contact your local office as there may be a back log or it may have got lost in the post. No way of knowing unless you contact them.
