I work a lot with slow Computers and use my USB key in nearly all of them. I was wondering if I set up my usb drive for ready boost would it work on every computer its plugged into? I presume it wont work at all on XP but say I set it up to work on a Windows 7 Pro x64 desktop will it just work if I later plug the USB into a Vista Starter x86 netbook?

I tested Microsoft Ready Boost on Windows Vista 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit.

I used the Dedicate this drive for Ready Boost. Both systems offered a maximum of 4GB cache to be used - both are up to date Service Pack wise from Microsoft - out of the 15.6GB in total on the 2.0 USB stick being used - this USB stick was purchased from the official IBM employee marketing scheme.

This was the test: Running my Logitech Quickcam USB webcam in a video, and stopping and starting the webcam on both OS's above where the webcam driver had been installed:

    Outcome of Test:

Win Vista 32 bit Ultimate- actually, there was a slow down of about 5% in using Windows Ready Boost. The webcam performance here was better off than without having Ready Boost.:(

Win 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition: an improvement about 10% in webcam picture quality, and webcam software firing up.:) this just about makes Ready Boost worthwhile here.
