Israel Security

With things kicking off in Cairo as I write this, my mind has been drawn to how the Arab spring is beginning to seriously affect the security of Israel. Everyone knows that your Joe Soap middle eastern citizen pretty much despises Israel and one of the benefits these disposed and son to be disposed brutal dictators had for the US and Israel was that they could contain the populist hatred against the Israeli state. Populist revolutions through out the region should bring in more populist regimes which spells bad news for Israel. Add in to the mix Israel effectively invading Egypt and killing a few police officers on top of Israels butchered flotilla attack last year which has turned another former ally, Turkey, totally against them, means that Israel is now totally surrounded by people that pretty much hates them without these puppets to save them.

Obviously events are still in their infancy and the outcome of the Arab spring will take ages to become clear, however it would appear democracy and freedoms can be a double edged sword for America. Their alliance with Israel will be tested to the fullest I think over the next five years. Whilst interesting times are ahead, a cornered and nervous Israel are a potentially catastrophic entity with their nuclear arsenal.

    Anyone any thoughts?

This is a crucial period in the history of the Israeli state for them to remain calm and not give in. It is important they meet the opposition head on and if it means war, so be it.

maybe if israel stopped treating the palestinians like concentration camp inmates there would be more tolerant attitudes towards them. Building a wall around an ethnic group and denying them their basic human rights sounds a lot like the germans building jewish ghettos in places like warsaw. then they wonder why the palestinians fire rockets at them? Remember 2006, when they invaded lebanon? Israel is not an innocent state being picked on by the rest, they bring a lot of the hatred on themselves

I think Turkey is finally putting its foot down as well which is a bad thing for Israel and has told it that Israel cannot illegally take the resources of the eastern med. Also the the fact that Syria has been a de-facto pro-Israel state as well and now its falling apart is bad news as well for Israel. Plus you also have a Jewish Spring as the leaders in Israel dont seem the best either.

Israel needs to get its foreign policy out of the 50s and 60s and into line with the 21st century. Heck even Paisley and Sinn Fein changed.

@n32: So you're justifying the killing of Jews. What a lovely human being you are. Even the innocent Israeli civilians who may not agree with the current government's policy on settlements in the West Bank deserve to die in these rocket attacks? Children are being targetted ffs. Violence is never the answer. What did the IRA's idiotic campaign achieve, besides setting the country back to the neanderthal age? Sweet eff all. I believe Gandhi won India's independence through peaceful resistance.

point out to me where i justified the killing of jews? i didnt say i support rocket attacks on israel. I said that the way the israelis treat the palestinians in gaza is what leads to rocket attacks. Read the post again and tell me where i justified killing jews.

I don't see anywhere in their post that they justified the killing of Jews. Perhaps you'd be prepared to cite exactly where they did that.

Israel has always been a full participant in the violence in the region, and quite frankly no better than Hamas, due to there own attacks on civilians, there general treatment of Palestinians as something less than human, and there constant ongoing aggression in the form of expanding illegal settlements.

Then there is the fact that Israel chose to ignore the Arab peace initiative, which was supported by the entire Arab league, which shows me that Israel is very much a rejectionist of any kind of peace, and makes them no better than Hamas IMHO. Its sad that extremists like the Israeli government (and there American enables), Hamas and others makes the lives of the ordinary person miserable, for there own twisted goals.

Israel....bring a lot of the hatred on themselves

Here you justify the killing of Jews. It's like saying that the fat kid getting bullied at school 'brings it on himself'. How dare the Jews have a homeland were they can live in peace. Do you agree the rocket attacks on innocent Israeil civilians are wrong and unjustified?

Naturally the people who were living their for endless generations pre 1947 etc don't count

Cann't see how you can have a homeland or live in peace by ethnic cleansing and mass murder, effectively the Nazi policy of Lebensraum, under the complete nonsense that their ancestors allegedly lived there over 2,000 years ago ??

of course its wrong, i never said it was right. what i m saying is that the way the palestinians are treated drives them to carry out the rocket attacks. now tell me how that statement proves i justify the killing of jews???????

When talking about Israel you have to mention America. The USA has to worry about keeping onside the new govts as a result of the Arab Spring. And also the other little factor of the US economy losing it's triple AAA rating, rising unemployment, huge debt etc, it may have to worry about domestic problems and put pet projects like Israel down the list of priorities and with it the endless dollars needed to keep a badly faltering economy like Israel's propped up.

He is not justifying their deaths. Don't be obtuse. He is explaining why Israel is attacked. Buy a dictionary and look up the word 'justify' before you accuse someone of doing it.

I am jsut curious if the use of the word ' lebensraum' as been either formally or informally adopted as the new ' buzz' word by the anti israeil' faction ? It has already been used before in recent days - quite ineffictively as it happens.
If so you should be aware that one of the former Muftis of Jerusalem recruited a regiment of Waffen SS soldiers to assit Hitler in his policy of ' lebensraum' and its associated policy of the liquidation of inferior peoples throughout Europe - which did include Ireland. So perhaps the use of this word may backfire - particularily as the Hams Charter has as one of its aims the destruction of Israel.

Over 20% of Israelis are not Jewish. Try again.

I'm going to add a 3-day ban for cookies221 to that, since the rapid plunge into nowhere is largely as a result of his entirely baseless accusations against n32.
