RTE Media Player

Personally I don't own a television, and on the odd occasion where I do choose to watch something on RTE, its media player inevitably gives trouble.

This evening was the latest event. I tried watching The Late Late Show online, yet after about 10 minutes (and thereafter, every 10 minutes or so) the RTE player cut out unexpectedly, displaying a message of 'feed not found!'.

This happens every single time I watch RTE on its media player, most annoyingly including the visit of Obama to Ireland, during various sporting competitions and also during news items and other programming. Inevitably it isn't as simple as refreshing the screen, as one has to sit once again through another stint of advertising before getting back to regular coverage.

I am aware that this is a problem experienced by plenty of other people, it came up recently on AH.

Given that RTE peddle online advertising for these shows, is the success of its online feed not a serious issue for the station, or are they even aware of the extent of its poor quality?

I have never had any major trouble with any online web TV services. 4OD has caused me just as many problems TBH, but then I have had so few problems that I haven't noticed on either RTÉ Player or 4OD.

Have you tried changing your Web Browser?

I will end up having problems now that I have said it :(

Are these live feeds or the catch up service?

RTE recently changed the look of their media player ,since last week or so cant seem to keep it working longer than ten or fifteen minutes at a time ,I know the old player was saying you must have REAL Player installed to run but MEDIA PLAYER worked fine before , I may have a go at upgrading REAL PLayer to see if that fixes it .

40D hardly ever works - and the ads are really annoying when it resets - but I've no problems with the RTE player. I use firefox.

Well seen as you're so tight OP:D you can try this and look at programmes live or even afterwards.

    https://aertv.ie/

EDIT actually not sure you can view them afterwards, seems to only be live.

Ad block to remove those ads

Whats aertv music, cool looking channel with a DJ playing nice Brain Dance Ambient stuff, looks like Flying Lotus, is this from the Picnic?

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

never had a problem with any online tv, |RTE included. do you have a slow connection or do you have a reasonable broadband speed for your internet? Id say this is the issue if you have a slow connection

Yeah they had some technical difficulties yesterday.

Unlikely that AerTV will ever have a catch up service as its is on dodgy ground providing the live services. Note: RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 do not provide full live coverage of their channels, how can MagnetTV/AerTV????? <<< That question still hasn't been answered.

I was getting that error 'feed not found' while trying to watch chamions league a week ago. Seems to have gotten quite unstable for me recently.

Trying to watch last night's match on RTE player and it keeps cutting out and going back to the start. (I mean the start where you have to watch the advert again)... Has happened 5-6 times now. Each time I restart (after the advert piece is finished) I have to move the slider to roughly the position it cut out at... inevitably, it will cut out again. Very frustrating. Previously, if there were occasions where I forgot to set my DVR to record a show, if it was on RTE, it would be ok because the player was pretty reliable... but for the last few weeks its been like this.

    Using google chrome 15.0.874.120 m

Yeah many problems trying to watch and listen to RTE tv and listen to RTE radio online with their own sites , so I've ended up doing the following, to watch RTE tv I use this ; https://www.aertv.ie/ and to listen to radio I use this : http://tunein.com/tuner/?StationId=15066&, so there you are , not the best solution but sure whatever works!!
I'll keep trying to get them to work consistently and can still use the RTE Media player when the wife misses Eastenders and such but not really sure whats wrong with them yet.

Just watch a full episode of 2 and A half Men, to be honest I was hoping it would cut out but no just my luck I got to sit through a full episode of the show :(

    Also using Google Chrome.
