Rear legroom

Our family car is a focus - I have one 2 1/2 year old in a rear facing seat on the passenger side (http://www.carseat.se/ for rear facing seats up to 5 years rather than 1 year and all the safety info about that) and my 10-month-old will need a bigger rear facing seat soon. However, there's no way it will fit behind my driver seat so I'm looking at changing to a larger car. I can spend a grand or two on top of my 06 focus, worth between €6K and €7k I'd say. The options I can think of are all perfectly fine but aren't really appealing to me: mondeo (another ford), Octavia (fine, but a bit boring), passat (probably ok, but seems to be a lot about electric probs). Anything I am missing?

    Thanks,

    Ro

PS: would love an e-class, but the high mileage on the cars within my bracket wouldn't really win Mrs Ro over.

PPS: I don't want to get into thread along the lines of "you're crazy changing your car to accommodate a child seat" please.

Seriously though, you need to get a skoda superb

I think the Skoda Superb (MK1) would fit the bill. It has huge leg room in the back (extended version of the passat), and is known to be very reliable and good value.

Coming from a Focus I reckon you should look at the Octavia.

Forget the E39 5 series, decent car but: Miserable radio (don't underestimate this!) and costs a fortune to run, 520 = 2.2 tax and 25mpg, 530d = four figure tax and 38 mpg at best. The SE is a slob to drive at normal/commute speeds.

Go for the Skoda, bulletproof residuals and VAG stuff at proper prices.

Did you just say bulletproof VAG?

    Certainly not. ;)

I said Skoda bullet proof residuals. Think Saab depreciation and you'll get my drift... :p

Octavia has very poor leg room which the OP needs.

I think that i would recommend a skoda to someone in my situation but I am sorta hoping for a slightly more exciting alternative, which may not be possible.

I would consider an outgoing 9-5 as we'll hang onto the car until depreciation is not an issue but I can't find comparative info on the rear legroom on the whatcar site.

The Octavias in budget are mark 2's and absolutely fine on rear legroom. The mark 1 was much smaller. Putting child seats in the back though I'd look at a C-Max or Golf Plus. You won't hit your head as much;)

I know they have plenty of leg room for legs..:p but the car seats are fairly bulky. I see our own one even rubs of the back of the drivers seat..

Agreed. Had one, I've never seen a car with as much legroom in the back
