Looks like this event is happening again this year in aid of Fighting Blindness. It was a cracker of a day last year. Must get training for it this year as was pretty slow last year.

Hope to see some of the usual heads there.

That sounds right. Helped out on this race last year. Fantastic route.

How doable is this for someone who has never really done any hill running? I can do 10k comfortably at the moment. Bit of training over the next 6 weeks, I think I'd be ready for a 15k. That's largely on the flat though, at a push there's some slight climbs in Marley. Would be concerned that the Glendalough route and hills could kill me off!

Given you have nearly eight weeks more to train you could progress your training to a stage where you should be able to handle the hills (as long as you dont go off too hard

This is a great race, autumn leaves, very scenic. Not one for a pb, one to enjoy. Also for a good cause.

    What's a pb??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭former

By pb I meant personal best. It's a lovely course especially at that time of year but there's a fair old climb so you won't be setting any personal records. I enjoyed it a lot last year.

Thanks for getting back to me. Believe me I hope to set a personal best. If anyone has any advise on training for the race or a link to a training plan, it would be great.

Is this a tough run? I started training a bit 1st Sept, and have been following a plan, did 12k this week longest yet as plan said not to do the 15k til sat....now starting to chicken ... got an email to say go with walking or slow joggers if ill be over 2 and half hours....tempting....I did 12k in 1 hr 20 min....will I be able for this on Sat?

Its as tough as you want it to be. There were some good times near the podium end last year but there were all sorts of standards through the field all the way back to walkers. Its trail based with c. 500m of climb over the 15k. If you are not used to running hills just slow down and take your time, get into a consistent cadence. Its a great route. You should enjoy it.

I'll be marshalling on the day so see you then.

I'd say it was fantastic up there today - Glendalough in Autumn sunshine - fewer nicer places to be.

I really enjoyed the race yesterday, feeling every ache and pain today though. Did you see the pictures from it http://actionphotography.ie/events-FBTR-102011.html see if you can spot yourself.

Looking forward to it again next year. What a day for it.
