TSB Deposits

    TSB are ringing round to customers offering 3.75%aer if the a/c is untouched for 2 months!. What are they up to? Should a depositor say ta very much or take the money & run

    i know very little of banking, but a phone call like that would frighten the sh1t out of me.

    3.75% for the measely favour of leaving the account untouched for eight whole weeks - sounds like panic to me.

    I have just contacted them and they said Yes! this rate was introduced recently because SOOOO many people were interested in very short terms!
    I still dont trust them ! Only thing is the money has the state guarantee

    Yes I got the call, and also spoke face to face with the guy in the bank. Not happy with that, I rang another branch today and had it confirmed

    Waste of Money really. You are better putting it into 3 year national savings bonds with a 10% return and no DIRT.

    10,000 @ 3.75% - 27% dirt over 3 years = 10,821.25

    10,000 in National Bond = 11,000 + You are actually helping the country

    If the offer is a 2 month notice savings account then there's nothing unusual about it. Banks have been offering those kind of accounts for ages.

    3.75% gross or 3.81% AER is available on a PTSB 2 year term deposit on amounts of 50,000 EUR or above. Not below that figure.
