If you had to choose would you go for a '01 Yaris or '03 Bora?

Just on the car alone so presume mileage, insurance etc are all the same

    Is it a 1.4 Bora?

    ...then I'd have the Yaris.

    +1 on This^^^^

and i hate tiny little cars but i'd still pick the yaris over a 1.4 bora. Now a tdi bora would be different. The 1.4 though is not a nice engine and in my opinion too small and weak for the car (they're heavy old things)

Yaris. Higher driving position than the bora and hatchbacks make the driving test a lot easier. Also for parking the yaris wins as well.

Thanks was recommending the Yaris myself. Both cars were kind of offered through a mechanic friend so could get a good deal which is why I mentioned the two models.

Personally I'd recommend a Panda to any learner. Had one years ago and adored it - easiest car in the world to drive and cheap as anything to run! If I didn't need gallons of space I'd prob still have it

Well the choice between the Yaris and the Bora resulted in him getting a Corolla :D

An 02 Corolla 1.4l - great little motor and little brother is delighted with his first car.

Nice one! Did you get the hatchback version?

Yeah this is it here - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2519249

Our uncle and his friend who both work for Toyota checked it out for my brother and said it was perfect. I've driven it a lot over the past few days (motorways and country roads) and it's a very comfortable and easy car to drive.

Only came with one key - does anyone know if you can get a replacement and if they had remote central locking on this version? If so, will ask the uncle to source one

    Thanks

That looks smashing! Really good deal there. Hope it goes well! As for the key, you can get one cut no problem for around 10eur, don't know about the key fob part that's a few shillings more though!

You will get a key that will open the doors only cut for €10 but it will not start the car. The key needs to have a chip in it and needs to be coded to the car's immobiliser to allow it to start. OP should ring around a few lock smiths, Toyota will look for over €100 for a replacement coded key.
