Trinity or ucd. REASONABLE arguments please

I rejected my first cao offer and my plan was to take a gap year and apply for arts in ucd. I wanted to do a double major in English and Irish. But I'm after getting my first choice in trinity in third round offers which was classical civilisations and modern Irish. As much as I love English I can't deny that I would love to do classical civilisations just as much. I think I kinda want to pick the university I'd have more fun at at this stage. Any advice?

Go to Trinity. I used to pity my UCD friends when I saw their campus on a wet January evening when I had just come from lounging in armchairs and playing snooker in the GMB.

TCD has a better reputation, so go there. Besides, I went to Trinity so I must be right.

Ucd is better for engineeing and medicine where as tinity seems to be better for English, history ect.

Personally I think the location of trinity is great but ucd seems to be better Craic. (opinion of friends)

    I'd go to either ^^

    Your folks must be minted.
    Lucky sod.
    Reasonable suggestion.

Organise a fashion show for freshers girls and sleep with as many as you can.

Obviously for a wealthy young person like yourself do whichever course you want.

I think UCD can afford armchairs and pool tables.

They're both good unis. From personal experience, Belfield is a bit bleak. You got offered your first choice. Go with it.

    Ssshhh..... here's a big secret.

There's not much difference at all when you get down to it.

The kids that go to both colleges like to think there is, but there isn't.

They just have nothing else to feel superior about considering they're doing an Arts degree so they settle on a silly, pointless, laughable rivalry that everyone else mocks.

In fact the more fervently these petty little dears insist that one is better than the other, "oh loike OBVIOUSLY!" the more the rest of us find it amusing.

Ah gas craic altogether so it is

I actually want to point out that I don't actually have much money. I have a single mother who just got laid off cos of cuts and I have to take a gap year to try to get a job to earn money for college fees. And I don't care about the lack of jobs, I'd rather live on next to nothing doing something I love than having a bit of money from a job I hate. I'm used to being poor anyway, I just want some advice on which university would be more welcoming/ have better societies/ nicer people and which one is better for what I want to do.

In terms of people and societies, they are both the exact same.

In DU when the lecturer says 'Good morning' the class will reply 'Good morning sir'.

In UCD when the lecturer says 'Good morning' the class will grunt something back.

and in DCU when the lecturer says 'Good morning' they write it down.

So old that it's rumoured to be have been found by archaeologists scribbled as graffiti in the bog under the Colosseum.

Of course, you would probably need an arts degree before you could translate it ...

True enough, but then we have an over-supply of plasterers, bricklayers, architects, engineers (most types of), doctors ... in fact, just at the moment we have an over-supply of most things.

Are you looking for a serious reply in afterhours?!
Both universities are equally well regarded. You should make your decision based on what subjects you would like to study, proximity to university and the strengths of the departments in question. Don't choose on the immeasurable quantity of prestige.

    DCU is bleedin' rapa!

    - The back breaking walk from the canteen to the library, then scoffing food in library.
    - The vending machines that eat money.
    - The lovely girls, they all have lovely bottoms.
    - Being an amazing scientist.
    - Paper planes in T101.

    S'all good.

I think that the key question that must be addressed is Pancake Tuesdays mother.
Trinity is better by the way and a first is a first. But the only people I know who got jobs in classical civilisation teach in universities in the arseholes of america.

Maybe you could write detective novels set in ancient rome?
