Car up for sale and this is what I received after about 2 hours:

"Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition,am
buying it for my vacation, because i'll be coming soon from our rig as
am a petroleum engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come for
the inspection due to the nature of my work,i would have love to call
in person but our satellite server has been down which restrict our
calls.i will be paying you through PayPal,pls get back to me with your
PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and contact the
courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in my place."

In this day and age do people really fall for this kind of thing??

Reply saying you are a telecommunications engineer and ask him to mail you a photo of the satellite server as you may be able to help fix it.

Next he will want your bank details to put the 190 million euros that his uncle left him into your bank account :)

What would you have to give him to make the payment, your email address?

Please be aware that this is a legitimate advert. I know for a fact they use the very reliable NPC firm for their collections. I have a long-term penpal who works for them :)

***NPC stands for Nigerian Prince Couriers

I am a telecoms engineer with experience of dealing with that environment. :D

Could have lots of fun "supporting" him!

Ask him why does he refer to the "satellite modem" as a "satellite server"?
Make model of the sat modem?
What satellite are they usually looking at? depends on where you are in the world? e.g. AOR-E (Alantic Ocean Region- East), IOR Indian Ocean Region.
What the latency is on the satellite link?
And how in gods name is he able to browse the web (including sites with lots of pictures) and email when he is "unable" to make a satellite call !

Screw support - tell him you can repair the satellite for a small fee and ask him to forward his paypall details to arrange payment :D

Did you advertise on the "Done Deal" that place is like a magnet for this sort of thing and seeing some of the ads been written by some of the cretins on there I'd say the lads in Lagos are doing a thriving business considering the average IQ of some of the Done Deal advertisers.

Sometime in the last few years I read a thread, possibly on Boards, about how someone stroked one of these guys getting him to travel all over europe, its a long read, anyone know of it?
its along read , but worth it

A "Belgian" professor bought car parts off my nephew, without seeing them. Cheque arrived , for a larger amount, request for surplus to be returned. etc
cheque looked good but did not work, forget whether it was fake or stolen, had looked ok

Carzone seems to be the worst to place ads on. I think every email I got from the ad being an carzone was a scam like the op's. It has put me right off using that website to advertise on.
