I recently changed the two bulbs in my focus to the philips extreme H7 55w bulbs but I have noticed that they arent as bright and also the distance isnt as good as what I did have.

Does anyone know if there is a better bulb on the market? A mate told me to try 100w bulbs, but wouldnt that play havoc with the electrics?

I had them too and then changed to these and never looked back:

    Osram Night Breaker PLUS H7

I always thought that the philips were just a tiny little bit better than the osram, but then others would say there isnt much in the difference.

I always thought that too, but I had one of each on my jeep for a few days recently and also at night and there was a noticeable difference with the Osrams, both brighter and a whiter light.

Osram Nightbreakers here as well, in both heads and dips.

Don't go with 100w bulbs, as it generates too much heat and can melt the electrics.

+1 here too - changed all six bulbs to nightbreakers (Dips, Mains, Fogs) and can't believe the difference. I do a fair bit of night time driving after gigs and it makes life a lot easier.

Can you get them offline anywhere? Based in Limerick

Any motor factors should carry them.

Auto Zone motor factors, near the NCT centre sell them. Think I paid around €22 for a pair last time.

I had the Nightbreakers in my Focus and they are impressive but these higher intensity bulbs generally have a shorter life span than regular bulbs. I got about 6 months out of one and 9 months out of the other. Luckily changing a dipped bulb in the Focus is a 10 min job.

I now have Osram's long life H7 bulbs in my 3 Series. Light is much better than the stock ones which is what I need living out in the stix. They also have a guaranteed life of 3 years which is a good thing as changing a dipped bulb in the E90 is a PITA. Bought them off www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

Are they bright? and secondly are they good distance?

I've Nightbreakers on my headlights (dual filament dip/beam) and they do the job; not tried Philips for those yet mind. Have Philips Extreme sidelights in to stop the car having mismatched colours, doesn't seem to be Osram bulbs that fit it.

100w is definite damage time, steer clear.

I once wandered off message and installed snake oil bulbs.

    Wow, what a difference!

Eventually got pissed off replacing them every time I had to stop for fuel...

Hella all the way IMHO and experience.

The LED revolution can't be that far away?

Why not go for HID Bulbs

The Halford one's are pretty good as well..found them way better than the standard lights..look for deals where buy one get one free..well worth it..

I changed my car recently and couldn't believe how **** the standard lights were on a 5 series, even took it back to the dealer as I thought they were misaligned. Dips are shockingly bad.

Sorry for restarting a two month old thread.

I will go with Ring Xenon Max (100 % extra light). I am using it in my BMW E46 (4x H7) and the visibility is just amazing.. I am using it for the last one year, without any problems. Now Ring has released Xenon Ultima (120 % extra light). I have never used Osram Night Breaker PLUS, hence cannot compare between the two.

I got a set of Osram nightbreakers in Top Part, €18 for the pair, noticibly better. not a fan of fitting 100w bulbs as you never know what'll happen.
