You won't find a gaming laptop for 400. I doubt you would anyway.

you are more help than you can imagine.

keep away from e-machines they are seriously garbage trust me, I get no peace at all from having to fix them day in day out for people. someone here will give you some good advice i'm sure on a decent laptop but you will need to specify exactly what you want it for as a gaming laptop will be very expensive.

good luck with your new purchase but be aware and careful and don't rush into buying any laptop.

When i say gaming im not talking serious gaming. It'll mostly be for browsing and college work but if it could run WOW and LOL id probably be happy. :) thanks for the help so far. E-machines are definitely out anyway haha.

You are not going to get much better than this for 400 euro (395 inc delivery). Such a laptop with probably manage WOW on low-ish settings but that is about as good as it gets I'm afraid. Aside from gaming this will be very good laptop for everyday computing tasks.

A second generation i3 which would have better integrated graphics card are a little out of budget (450-500), they wouldn't make an absolutely huge difference anyway only maybe 15% better performance so you would still be limited to lowish enough settings anyway.

Actually anything with the AMD e350 should run WoW decently

    e.g. this (15.6 inch)

    or this (11.6 inch)

(actually they are cheaper on amazon with great reviews and should be free delivery)

I have a bunch of netbooks and laptops, for me the best screen size is 12 inch for portability, etc.. so the 11.6 might suit you for college, carrying around and a bit of gaming - however the 15.6 will be bigger and more solid if it will be sitting there most of the time

here's the benchmarks of the e350

the E350 is about half the CPU benchmark of an i3 but beats it on Graphics, horses for courses really

True but the extra processor power is not really needed. Anyone doing everyday tasks, browsing, movies, word, music, pics, etc will not actually need that extra power (I have a quad core monster desktop downstairs that doesn't do those tasks any faster really)

Its bonus is the gaming part, in that it can actually run WoW at something approaching smooth.

I have to agree with johnny7. The screen size on the levovo is fantastic for portability. I am preparing one for a customer right now. Wiping all the extra rubbishy software on it, installing office etc. I'm using it hooked up to my widescreen TV via the HDMI output watching RTE player and typing this at the same time using the laptops screen. My customer, who is a photography student, will be using it with a 23 inch monitor and will have a separate mouse and keyboard. I will change the power settings so that they laptop will stay on with the lid closed when it's hooked into the mains. They she can just put the laptop on the desk next to her and work away as it's a desktop pc. I can't stress the importance of shopping for a really good quality bag. If' you're going to be out and about with it you will want something that's comfortable and strong as i have the remains of her last laptop here beside me that got crushed on a packed bus!
