In case any one is interested, the Old Course is open for 2012 bookings for the next month. You need to fill out an application form and they'll get back to you whether you've got your tee time. Green Fee £150 and you must play one of the other courses too. These range from £70 - £20.

    I'm in, so fingers crossed!!

Would love to play the Old Course, and hopefully will someday soon.

I saw a deal in this months Golf World magazine and it was for a 2 night stay in Fairmont St.Andrews and a round on the Old, New and Jubilee for £240 I think it was. Ill check again this evening just to make sure I got that right. The offer is only for the winter months however.

man it looks complicated, would love to go with some buddies but the single golfer jobby looks more likely to get you out quicker! man never booked golf the year before either.

i played there in 2003 and booked for 8 people .it's a bitconfusing at first but just go step by step and it should go as planned. the st andrews people who look after the booking are very helpful and are great for advice etc. we played the old and the new . what a few days . went early april and got great weather and good craic. just priced a trip for early april 2012 for 3 nights b+b ,2 games 1 on the old, 1 on the new and flights and transfers for about 550 euro .

I have stayed in the Fairmont...beautiful hotel..about three miles outside the town....two great courses on it....it is normally about €200 a night so that deal with the three courses is unreal value...can you confirm this and pm me with a link..would be interested in it

did it my self . travel agents think were all yanks with lots of bucks so i avoid them. you have to get your teetimes confirmed before you can book flights and b+b but have not heard of any body not getting what tee times they wanted

Going again in Nov. and staying in the GreyFriars hotel... throw on the golf shoes and 4 mins walk to the first tee of the old. Grand couple (Jim & Jinty) manage the hotel & they'll look after ya.

This is a much better way to go. It is almost criminal to go to St Andrews and stay out of town in the Fairmont. Grab a local hotel, enjoy the golf courses, have a pint in the Dunvegan afterwards and make sure to get in an evening putting round or two on the Himalayas putting green.

Note: The Old Course plays off mats during the winter (from Nov 1st if I remember correctly)

Tones you cant just ring up and book. You need to apply now or wait until the first tuesday in Jan to see if there are any slots not taken up.

Went this year and played Old and Jubilee courses, would love to go again next year. Stay in St Andrews if at all possible lovely village great atmosphere, really loved the lack of 'look at us we have a famous golf course' that can be found around some of our so called exclusive clubs.

Got confirmation this week of my tee times at the Old Course and Eden. Will probably play another one too and somewhere outside St. Andrews.

Any suggestions of good, cheap courses between Stranear and St Andrews?

Not cheap, though u can get good deals before peak season, but Turnberry. Its only 25 mins from Stranraer and is probably the best course u will ever play. We have some unbelievable links here but none as good as Turnberry, it is rightly ranked as the best in Europe by Golf world

The best gig you can get for St. Andrews is their Winter Golf Package - if yer prepared to book well in advance, it cost us 180 stg with a guaranteed game on the Old Course plus any 2 others and they threw in a meal voucher also. The applications open in August for the following year golf. This is where most of the teetimes are taken up on the daily roster. But we got to play the Old Course in April no mats - as for accommodation .. never mind the hotels go for the B&B's there's plenty of them knockin around within a stones throw of the courses.
