Intervals or reps are sustained efforts with a set distance and recovery for example 6x400 etc.

Pickups can be defined two ways (from the references I have seen)

    1) Some people use this term instead of strides. These are short efforts usually between 50-120m (though can go as high as 200) at usually between 1 mile race effort and 5k. The aim of these is to work on form and stride economy. There is a long recovery after them so they do not work the aerobic system but are solely focused on improving running form

2)Some people use this term to define surges. This is slight increases of pace during an aerobic (easy run). These normally last a short duration and are sporadic. An example of this would be a 1 min surge every 10 mins in a 1 hour run.

Maybe there are other interpretations but they are the two meanings of the word hat I have come across
