Chrome multi search

I'm trying to convert from Firefox (which eats a gig of RAM on a permanent basis) to Chrome but there's one feature I'm missing - the ability to reuse a search term in another engine. For example, in firefox I have the little search bar on the right of the address bar with a dropdown list of 7 or 8 search engines.

Say I wanted to get information about "William Shatner" - I type in the search term and hit go to bring up a google search. Now I want to see some images so I switch the dropdown to Google images and hit go, then repeat for Wikipedia, IMDB and so on. In Chrome's omnibar I have to type in the search term each time, prefaced by a search engine keyword. I've tried extensions like Multi-search, Quick search and one other whose name escapes me but they all require too much effort to use.
