Was in Currys/PC World in the Square in Tallaght today and spotted this on sale as Saorview approved even though no Panasonics are Saorview approved.

Saw similar with a Panny in DID, as ever buyer beware.

Was in Harvey Norman looking for a new tv a while ago and one employee recommended a panasonic tv and I asked him was it saorview approved and he said it was, and then I asked another member of staff was it saorview approved , and he said it wasn't! I think the 1st member of staff I asked was trying to pull a quick one and get away with it!

Fit for the purpose they were bought for - they must do what they are reasonably expected to do
As described. In other words, you must not make false or exaggerated claims about them. The description can be something written on the package, for example, or something said by a sales assistant to the customer, or claimed in an advertisement

That looks like one of the stickers sent out by Saorview to registered retailers to stick on only approved TV's.

Possibly, a member of staff stuck these stickers on random TV's without considering what was/wasn't approved? Just throwing it out there...

    I was thinking same, TBH.

Heck, maybe even members of the public (see kids) were messing with them. :P

I think it might be possible that the 1st rep just didn't know, lol. As I'm sure we can all attest to, at times, the shops can have only one so called resident tech-head/geek/nerd. :)

All that said, perhaps Curry/other stores are indeed playing fast and loose with the definition of saorview approved. They may simply be trying to say that this TV has dtt functionality, as in, it has mpeg4, which is of course quite different from saorview approved.

Was in Currys last week - they will tell that the TV (a non-saorview approved one) runs saorview and will try and avoid giving you a straight answer when you ask them "is it saorview approved?"

    Be careful.
