it can be done with any type of paint, my sister did hers with spray cans from halfords and it turned out perfect, you can lacquer over it then..

if you are gonna get it powder coated make sure its from a reputable place as there are some horror stories where they dont clean it out properly afterwards and the engine goes boom!

    Welcome to boards :D

Did she do it with high temperature paint?? You also need high temperature lacquer unless you want all the paint to peel off due to the heat!

A good degreaser (GUNK is awesome stuff) and some fine wet and dry I'd imagine.

Most rocker covers are plastic. AFIK you can't powder coat plastic..?

My rocker cover was painted with a Halfords rattle can, no chipping or flaking problems at all

Nitromorse the cover, then sand it down and ensure it's smooth to the touch, clean it off and then give a few coats of whichever paint you want then 2 or 3 coats of lacquer and you're good to go!

spraying with rattle cans is grand...its all in the prep lads. loads of wet/dry sanding and use the appropriate primer for the material your spraying. Don't sand between coats of paint if its a metallic paint and 3 coats of lacquer is enough. first two very light.

The 750 odd cracks are though :p

Also, you don't need high-temp paint for doing it, or lacquer - temps shouldn't be that hot, if they are you've got bigger issues. far bigger issues.

Blame the numpty that painted it before I owned it

Used a paint brush...went over the wrinkle black...and never took it off the head either

2 cans of nitromorse couldn't get it off! :( Soon have another cover to play with though, I'll have a spare one in a while :)

It really looks good and is the best cover for car. And I have heat resistant paint for my engine cover and it really works good.
