This race has been postponed until 22nd October, sadly due to the death of one of the islanders over in Boston. Update from organisers:
Inis Iron Meáin postponed until Saturday the 22nd of October 2011.
We regret to announce that in light of the tragic young death of islander Ciarán Conneely in Boston earlier this week and as a mark of respect to Ciarán’s family and friends, this Saturday’s Inis “Iron” Meáin due to be held on the 15th of October has been cancelled, this date also coincides with his funeral being held on the island. His loss has deeply affected everyone on the island and we would like to convey our deepest thoughts and sympathy to the Conneely family at this very difficult time.
We apologise if this has caused you any inconvenience and we hope to see you the following weekend where everything will go ahead according to plan. Your contribution to this worthwhile cause is vital as it ensures that Coláiste Naomh Eoin, the local secondary school, which is the core of this lovely island community, continues to thrive thus maintaining a vibrant island community.

Can't make the postponed date, pity cause it looks like a unique event!Would be interested to hear reviews from anyone that does it this year.

Yeah. The new date is just too close to the Dublin Marathon for me.
I'm still going out there but just as a spectator.

Fair play, thats a good oul distance to go to be a spectator:D Few people I know are torn over whether to ask for their money back, since it is for a good cause and the event was postponed for a genuine reason.
No point approaching RunIreland for it, with their completely inflexible No Refund policy(hate booking through them!!!) but don't think most people will have the heart to approach the organisers on the Island for it.

I'm out there a lot as a weekend tourist. (I love it.) I might softly bring up the idea of refunds to one of the organisers whom I know.

I assume you've heard the latest:

After careful consideration we have taken the decision to completely reschedule Inis Iron Meáin 2011 until next March. In hindsight, the rescheduling of the event from the 15th to the 22nd did not give people adequate notice as many of you already had other commitments for that date. As a result a third of our ...participants can’t make the rescheduled date and a decision had to be taken regarding the viability of going ahead with the event at this time.

The bank holiday weekend of Sunday the 18th of March 2012 was agreed upon and we hope this will be more favourable for the majority of you.

We sincerely apologise for all the toing and froing and we hope that we haven’t caused you too much inconvenience.

For those of you that have registered through runireland please let us know by the end of next week (23rd of October) whether you wish your entry to be deferred to March or whether you require a refund.
    Email: info@inisironmeain.com

Hopefully for the organisers sake this doesnt clash with the Craughwell 10, they havent announced their date for 2012 yet but March is when they have it on.
