    My specifications require:

15" but no bigger, (needs to be portable)

RAM - lots, but 8gb kit can be got cheap so maybe a laptop that would support 2x4gb sticks.

preferably a quad core, or minimum a sandy bridge dual core or AMD equiv.

    big HDD

    nice screen

    dedicated graphics.

what is the AMD A6-3400M Quad-Core like? would it handle rendering etc? seems very lame @1.4ghz

so far ive settled on the Lenovo G570 from saveonlaptops.co.uk. is there a better online store? how much do they charge delivery?

    any other advice?

Had a look at Komplett, Dabs and Amazon, can't better it within the budget.

This one on Saveonlaptops, same cpu, better graphics, only 3GB RAM though, but it's £100ish cheaper, if it's upgradeable may be worth a look, you'd have to ring to find out though, they don't answer emails.

You'd lose Blu-ray and the HDD is abit smaller aswell though....

thanks alot for the reply. funny you mention that Acer, I'd almost decided on getting this version of it but now I'm wondering if its worth it. an extra £100 appears to buy me more ram, slightly better HDD, and a better battery. I'd have to upgrade the ram though for ~€40 because 3gb really isn't enough. hmm decisions.

what's the build quality on Acer these days?

Hmm, I wonder would the battery be better? You'd be saving €60ish, is it worth it though with the hassle of ordering parts and losing a possible better battery.....decisions indeed.

I'm using this Acer at the minute, CAN NOT fault it. Built like a tank.

Currys have the 5750, it's a different spec but I assume it's the same chassis, you could go in a see what you think of it.

I wouldn't bother with the Lenovo myself, you can't upgrade the graphics.

fast GPU from nividia is best, quad cores are not suitable or fast at rendering :( and there are very few progra s that ever use the 4 cores, you would be better getting a dual core with 4 threads, high end i5 sandy bridge often beat i7 on many process times as well as price :)
