are hair metal-tastic! And I think I'm in love.

I had my heart set on ordering a Fullerton Red G&L ASAT Classic Custom with a belly cut but since I've taken my Ratt cds out of retirement I've been feeling the need for something dirty with humbuckers.

I'm not necessarily convinced by the Floyd Rose FRT 02000 though that the So-Cal and San Dimas come with. They're advertising it as a 'real' Floyd Rose but it's definitely not an OFR. As far as I can tell it's made in Korea under license by Charvel/Jackson. That brings it down a little in my estimation.

Still though, they do have a compound radius fretboard, mini grovers and either DiMarzios or Seymour Duncans. And one of those trippy cases Fender are using. Not bad for €650 or so I reckon.

And then there's the Wildcards. #6, the Dreamsicle is so, so dreamy. It doesn't have a Floyd, so it avoids that debate but at €775ish from Thomann it seems a little pricey...

For the same price, maybe a little more, I could just about swing a custom G&L Legacy in tangerine with 2 humbuckers and much more convincing bridge.

I just don't know what to do.

Here's a link to the Dreamsicle: orange :pac:

Just to be different I have to say I didn't like the orange one myself :).

I'm definitely planning on getting one of these before the year is out. I prefer the So Cal models with the pickguards though. I'll probably end up getting this one. I love the look of them, and they'll satisfy my need for an Iron Maiden strat!

Was thinking about building one of those but with a reversed headstock and a kahler. Now, I'm not so sure...

I like the look of the So-Cal as well. I'm not the biggest fan of the SD 59 that the San Dimas has.

I do still think that the Dreamsicle is too expensive though, for what it is. I'm not sure how replacing a humbucker with a single coil and giving it a cheaper bridge can make it €80 more expensive!

sorry to bump an old thread, but I have been on the look out for a good humbucking axe that stays in tune. I used to have a Charvel HH with a Kahler bridge, neckthru, sold it for half nothing. It played really really well, but I couldn't hack the pointy head. I also had a cheap Charvel surfcaster years ago, and for the money, it had one of the nicest necks I have played.
I don't play metal, heaviest I would go would be Pearl Jam type stuff, mainly stay around the Wilco area, but this Charvel is a beauty, plus the locking tremelo would be great. Yup, the pups would be high output, but it would be a great alternative to my Jazzmaster......:cool:

I don´t think you can really go wrong here. By most accounts the fretwork on the MIJ models is superior to that of the MIA models. The hardcase also makes it a much sweeter deal.

What type are you thinking of getting? So-Cal or San Dimas?

They are seriously the best bang for buck guitars out there at the moment. I recently picked up this San Dimas one recently:

Seymour Duncans, an Original Floyd Rose (its one of the newer Korean ones, works as well as the German models though), Gunstock oil neck, grover tuners and a hard case all for under 700 euro. Amazing.

I'd go for a black So-Cal. Even when I had the Charvel years ago I was never one to use a whole lot of whammy, but I love that it stayed in tune always. The neck was superb to play. Though today I came across a Schecter PT demo, and it has a coil splitter, and a tone control, which seemed like it could be an advantage...Though the clean demos of the So-Cal online suggest it seems grand. It's going to sound different to the Jazz.
I saw a shop in Cork with Charvels before the Christmas. Not sure if they do trades, but I would be willing to trade up to a So-Cal. I need to shift a guitar first, but if they would do a trade, I'd go for one asap....

Cons of the Charvel: no tone control, can't split the pups,

Pros of Charvel: FR, usually great necks, good pups, does what it says on the tin.

Cons of Schecter PT: I have never played a Schecter, no locking tremelo

Pros: looks really good, coil splitter/tap would be good for more tones, plus it has a tone control too.....

Not sure if you can really call it an OFR as that term is basically synonymous with the German model. If it were an OFR it would be called an OFR. But they´re meant to be nice regardless.
