Problem with 2nd Sky HD Box.

Guys I had a Thomson Sky HD Box replaced two weeks ago with a new Amstrad 1TB HD Box in the main room in the house. All is working fine with that box.

I decided to use my old Thomson HD box in the spare room, just to receive the free HD channels etc (I have a FreeSat card for the Thomson box). However once I connect the Thomson Box up to the Satellite in the spare room I lose signal on certain channels on the Amstrad Box in the main room, RTE1,2, TV3, TG4 etc etc...

I cant get any signal on the Thomson Box when connected in the spare room. I only have one feed from the LNB into this box as I'm using it as a FTV/FTA Box.

It cant be a problem with the cable or LNB because I tried connecting a standard Sky Box in the spare room and it works!.

The problem only seems to happen when I connect the Thomson HD Box. This appears to conflict with the Amstrad Box.

    I'm using a Octo LNB.

    Any advice lads?

have you set up the tompson box up so as it knows there is only one connection?

(You have connected to the correct connection on the tompson box . ? )

Yeah I have set up the Thomson to Single Feed option and still having the same problems.

I have also tried connecting the satellite cable to dish inputs 1 and 2. Still no joy.

have you tried the tompson box back in the original position ?
or the amstrad in the new position?

    (clutching at straws here );)

    Hi John Mac,

I swapped the Thomson Box back to the main room and it works fine, as in, it receives the free to view channels as the card is not paired to it anymore.

Just cant understand why it not working the way I intend it to work.

When the Thomson Box is set up on the spare room it blocks RTE, TV3, TG4 out of the Amstrad one in the main room. There is no signal at all on the Thomson box!.

    Scratching my head here!!!!

This is a common symptom of failing Power Supply capacitors.

Ah nuts!, thats a pity. I was hoping to use the Thomson HD Box for the FTA/FTV HD Channels!.

The day the Thomson was replaced with the Amstrad it was working fine, no issues with it at all. I only changed to the Amstrad for more recording space.

Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate it!

It's common for PSU faults to show up after the Digibox has cooled down. Not a difficult (or expensive) repair. Alternatively, offer the dud PSU for sale on eBay. Someone will pay a tenner.

Well that wouldn't be nice now would it.

Why wouldn't it be nice? Lots of people are looking for a PSU that they can refurbish while their own is still sort-of working. If you offer a dud Thomson PSU, somebody will be glad to give you a few Euros for it.
