    Hi guys,
Just looking for some help!!...I'm buying my girlfriend a bike for her birthday but I haven't a clue what make-brand to go for and I want to make sure I don't get ripped off!!...Looking to spend about 300-400. Bike would be used for general fitness and the odd mountain-hill cycle. Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks :)

Unless your girlfriend is very short, you don't need to get a woman specific bike.

300/400 euro will be too little for a new road bike or even hybrid, unless you drive up to Decathlon in Belfast maybe?

Now is a good time to pick up a bargain in the shops though.

I have a Raleigh Oakland hybrid, have done over 3000 km on it, (including a 500 km tour to Mayo and back) have not serviced it yet and it's still running well. Available online from Eurocycles for 230. A bit on the heavy side at 15.5 kg but a rugged, stable, comfortable bike to ride. Some of the components are not top quality but when they wear out I will replace them with quality stuff.

My wife got a low end Giant Escape ladies bike last year, and loves it. It's gone up from €380 to €410 but still just about in your range.
