Hi I'm currently receiving JSB with €14.90 on the base rate for a child. My partner is on Maternity Benefit, not topped up by employer.

I'm due to start some casual work in the coming weeks. I'll be working 10 hours a week over two days (Sunday being one of the days).

I was wondering how will this affect my claim? I know I have to fill in the X and O's but I was wondering how much you lose a day for working? Also Sunday isn't counted is it?

AFAIK Sunday will not be counted unless you were casual before and had a level set on your claim. I am presuming you are getting €188 plus half the child dependent rate of €14.90.... €202 approx. Everyday you work you will be deducted €33.66 approx. If Sunday isnt counted in your case then you will get €168.34 approx from sw. Just be aware that you claim will be payment suspended until you bring in forms up14B and up15 from your employer. You will be given dockets to submit every week to certify the days you have worked. Goodluck with the p/t work it could lead to full time.

Thanks for your reply. Yes that is correct about my rate. I was on casual workers last year before the baby and I was deducted ~€20 a day for the days that I worked. Will it be that much higher this time?

Also I don't start for a few weeks, can I get the forms filled in now so that my payment won't be suspended for too long?

I am doing the calculation on what you are receiving now... that is divided by 6 to give a daily rate and that is what will be deducted for each day you work. I cannot understand how it was only €20 last year as you were on €196 a week last year before the budget which should have been a deduction of €32.66 for every day you worked.

Best to check with your local sw office and see if they will take the forms ahead of time and issue you with the dockets.

Thanks for your reply again. I got a long detailed letter last time I was on it stating they calculated my means and it was €20 a day or something along them lines. Worked out I lost €20 for every day worked.

Will pop down tomorrow and see what the story is.
