I was stopped by the Guards in mid June, he took my details and said I'd receive a fine and penalty points in the post within 28 days. Thus far I haven't received anything.

I know it's early days but what are the odds he spilled his coffee on his notebook that day?

Have a wild guess what I received in the post today? Yep, that's right, a motherfúckin' summons.

How can we have a police force so ****ing incompetent?

I have the ID number of the guard who I handed my insurance cert into, will me making a complaint about him achieve anything at all? I feel like driving over to the station just to give him a smack!!! So fúcking pissed.

What were you stopped for? What was the summons for?

"driving without reasonable consideration of others"

Guard said to hand in cert at my local station and that I'd get 2 points.

I suppose on closer inspection of the summons I may have jumped the gun a little with my rant.

    How so

Well the summons isn't for no insurance, so presumably they do have a record of me handing in my cert.

But I always thought driving without care was just a straight fine and points? Didnt think a court appearance was needed.

It's the last one on that list - mandatory court appearance unfortunately... :(

Ouchy, what was it you (apparently) did?

I overtook a car that was doing at most 30kmph at 7am in the morning on a road with a broken white line. It just so happens the car coming towards us at the time was a gardai car and a guard who was of the opinion that I didn't have enough room to complete the maneuver safely, contrary to my own personal opinion of course.

What does it normally take to appeal successfully?

A cool head and proof that you were in the right. For example, in your case, an in car camera that shows undeniable proof that you could safely complete the manouver without having to drive dangerously.

On a side note, this morning while driving to the dart station, someone overtook me at 60km/h just to gain one car's length in traffic that was moving at the speed I was doing, which was 50. I just don't get it. Next time, I'd watch out for a Gardai though and considering your other posts, you seem to react first and consider your actions later.

Best of luck all the same.
