    How about sharing a few pics since opening day lads to see how we're all getting on. If you remember the posting a while ago about a deerstalker being sought in Donegal for tree damage, well luckily I got the permission to hunt the grounds and took this fine pricket over the weekend. A nice area and hopefully there'll be more hunts ( paoulo, If you're reading this!1:)).

    With the "dear " rifle at 7am this morning.Running shot at 90 meters Hornady V MAX.243.Straight thru the heart and exited at the lower rib cage area.Am amazed at how little damage a .243 does compared to what I grew up with [7mm calibres].
    Well pleased with the rifle and scope set up.Abit heavy for a long day walking stalk,could do with a graphite,etc foreend to lose some weight on it.
    But well happy with it and the 3/12x40 mildot ill reticle scope.
    All in all a good mornings work.:D

    90 yard running shot... your a great advertisment for the sport. I must say i'm glad it worked out (for the deers sake). Trying a shot like that is just damn right irresponsible.

    Congrats on the first Paulo, Got my first yesterday morning also. It looks like your one is just shedding the velvet, mine was in full velvet. Is it not very late for animals to be in velvet???
    How is the lease working out /

    Cheers Tack..After all the bother getting it it needs to earn its keep.

    You should have seen his pal.Had twice the length in the antlers.:D

    @ Mountainy Jack.
    No biggie..Thats a standard qualifying shot for the German hunting test...Albeit at 50 meters on a range.You get three attempts at it.Fail,you go away and get shooting lessons.Wonder when the HCAP will intoduce a moving qualification shot here?

    @Landkeeper
    Was recommended to me.Seems to do the job nicely.It dropped him and little meat damage .Thought that was the idea of the game??

    @Poulo
    Nice looking blade...What is it?

    Later
    Question about the term "prickett" in relation to Sika.Is that the correct terminology for the male of the species or for them in a certain age??In Reds its 1 to2 years??Also do Sika antlers develop much like the Red deer antlers?Reason I'm asking is I havent hunted them before or seen any sika trophies with much antler development.All the ones I've seen looked long and thin with the odd point here and there??

    Shot this pricket during the week, a bit small but he was limping badly on rear leg which turned out to be badly cut near the hock and looked infected so maybe I did the correct thing. He'll make good eating. Mauser did you go on that other lease you mentioned to me?

    Hi Styer, good work and it sounds like you did that pricket a favour. I see he is in full velvet also, like the one I shot the other day. I thought it very late for them to be in full velvet but there must be something to this global warming thing.
    Yep took up the offer on the other lease, will have to get u up for a walk soon. That was where I got one last Friday and lost/missed a fine stag on Thursday evening (dam close from a high seat). On that point I am going to ask the question on a new thread re - shooting up/down hill and the effects on POI. Styer I know u wrote a bit before in some magazine about the effect so you might be so good as to keep an eye out for the thread.

    hi griz, my knife is muela storm with 440 stainless steel.

    b59d66b8.jpg

    i thought the term pricket is a general description of a young stag/buck a year or two old that only has developed the spikes and will go on to develop a bigger set of antlers as it matures
