Installing a printer without the disc?

Basically bought a printer a Canon mp495 but I have a netbook so i've no CD-ROM drive.

I know it can be done by downloading drivers etc but I dont know which one to download, i'm running on windows 7 starter edition.

Can any one explain what software to download from canon website

there's a box to tick and a button to click to get the driver

From what I can gather this is the Driver for it.

Just navigate to the botom of the page where 'download' is and accept the conditions by clicking on it, the 'download' link will appear then.

Here is the listing of available software for 'Win 7', I assume it's not 64bit being a netbook.

And here is the UK version, seems to be easier to read and navigate.

Once your netbook has the driver for it, your netbook should be able to send files to it for printing.

Some of the other software from what I can gather, contains additional functionality in communicating with the printer, there's a wireless set-up assistant which I would advise on installing and photo printing software, etc, which you could do without, though a quick read through the manual will determine if you need it.

Just wondering could I of installed it on my mates laptop and then copied to a usb stick and installed it on my netbook?

Just download the driver on your m8s laptop and save file to disk, no need to install it on his laptop, just throw the downloaded file probably a .exe or .zip to a usb key and run it on your machine
