Ok just gonna throw this one out there, dont shoot me if it doesnt pay off because its a complete outside based on the odds but theres reasoning behind the choice!

For the outright winner stick a small bet on Everything Everything (Man Alive) its currently @20/1 - I stuck a fiver on it.

Main reason being Jools Holland is a massive fan of the band, thinks they are fantastic, has talked about them loads on his show, great for music etc. He is also on the judging panel for the awards tomorrow night, which are solely based on the music on the album. These awards are known for having winners that arent the favs or the expected ones so its a good outsiders choice for a small bet for anyone interested.

That's good thinking.. I tried to figure it all out (impossible - since the Mercury Awards are reputed for being completely random!) and I was just left totally confused.

A lot of critics said PJ Harvey to win it, but she's been nominated three times and won once which seems unreasonable given the number of new comers in the nominations list.. I threw a fiver on Anna Calvi, James Blake and Ghotpoet just for the craic!

We'll see, I suppose.. What time's the show on at, do you know?

Also, your reasoning Jools is excellent. I should have factored Jools into the equation!

She is favourite to win it, but as you say she has won before back in 2001 and I think she had her moment of glory back then. These awards tend to go to someone not expected and someone who is bringing something different to the table. A different genre or artist that is bringing something fresh to the scene. This isnt to say PJ Harvey cant or wont win it but previous winners or artists with already huge sales rarely win it as it is usually given to someone to boost their sales and help promote the band. For these reasons I would cross off PJ harvey and Adele and Elbow.

I think with these awards and the way they usually go and with Jools on the panel they have a great shout for the reasons outlined and its worth a punt @20/1

The show is on at 6pm tomorrow (Tuesday)

Gambling is so unbecoming for a lady. I'll just get back to the kitchen.
