I use to play alot of golf many years ago :) and I had a mid HC. I recently started playing again and its like starting off again from the begining!

My irons are ancient and need to be changed. I have a set of Benross woods which I am pretty happy with and I spotted a set of Benross (2010 model) forged irons on americangolf.co.uk

    http://www.americangolf.co.uk/product/Benross-VX-51-Forged-Irons-Steel-4-PW/p13049.aspx

I am just wondering has anyone any experience of these irons or other Benross irons? I am looking for a set of irons to get me back into the game, forgiving but at the same time suitable if I ever got back to mid HC.

I'd Say you would be better off with the MX-100's in this thread.

benross make fantastic affordable game improvement irons. theyre not a household name and dont have a player on tour but they are great value for money. much better clubs than the vast majority of the affordable range.... ie Ram, bobby jones, ben sayers, dunlop, ultra etc.

i had a set for 2 years before getting my hands on a set of pings.

still use the hybrids which came with superb aldila shafts - at a fraction of the cost of elite brands with lesser shafts.

+ they always do really well in the golf digest equipment surveys compared to both elite & second tier brands.

Just checked these out and they seem like a good club. But they seem more suited for High-Mid HC. Big head (cast) and forgiving. (The MX-200s are forged.)

Whereas the Benross VX51 have a forged head and are more suited to Mid-Low HC. The shaft and grip on the VX51s are good. Benross in general gets good reviews on the net despite being a young company and not well known.

I think if I go for the Benross VX51 they may last me 5 years or so. Whereas with the MX-100s I might need to change after a couple of years especially if I can get back to my old HC. :)

Nothing against the Benross clubs as I have read some really good reviews, but at that price you are in the price range of some really good second hand gear. Since you are looking at a forged irons that increases your chance of picking up some quality at a decent price. These types of irons tend to depreciate a bit faster as the market for them is smaller and players who use them tend not to overestimate their value. I think you should try to capitalize on this and take a look at the second hand market.

Adverts.ie a good place to start.

Here is a link for those clubs on special for £199.99.
Can you give me some feedback if you get them. I am considering a change & the reviews on these are very positive.
