Building Quotes,,,Cannot get one?????

    Hi,

    Living in Ballaghaderreen and Im looking for a written builders quote to get a loan from my credit union. House is in need of renovation at a cost of approx 25k.
    Called several Builders and they agreed that they would do a price it on a particular day and I rang them today and i cant get an answer.......

    What the hell is going on.........

    get an Arch tech out (with retro-fit / BER experience) to a quick 1-2page specification. by doing this each builder will price the for the same thing and also know your serious. as builders are squeezed on price and manpower, getting to quote for work that they may not win has become time consuming and costly.. sign off the times...
    Maybe ask here for names of small builders (By PM) in your area

    Are you actually going to use the builders or do you just want a piece of paper for the credit union? I can pm you some names if you actually want to use the builders.

    I also need a quote for a house that I am hoping to buy in Dublin 8. It needs complete refurbishment, ideally everything but the walls and roof need to be replaced. It is terraced, and 110sqm.

    I was wondering what is the best way to obtain quotes? Should I use a builder or architect? What would a standard fee be for such a quote? A friend of mine used an architect and builder last year, they didn't charge anything at the time, but the architect seemed to give a much higher quote than the builder, 80k vs 50k for the same proposed job. Not sure who to ask/how to go about it.


    I will need an accurate quote for the bank, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
