Been researching laptops to replace an old T30 Thinkpad..
Friend recommended to look at Argos before I purchased and I found this..

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5085240/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%252C%2BPCs%2Band%2Bphones%7C14418968/c_2/3%7Ccat_19780850%7CLaptops%2Band%2Bnetbooks%7C14419039.htm

    CPU and Memory:

    Dual core Intel Pentium P6200.
    2.13GHz processor speed.
    6GB memory.
    320GB hard drive.

    Display features:
    15.6 inch display.

    High definition display.
    Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.

    DVD optical drives:
    Dual layer.

    Graphics:
    Intel HD graphics card.

    Interfaces and connectivity:
    2-in-1 media card reader.
    3 USB ports.
    1 HDMI port.
    B/g/n wireless/WiFi enabled.
    Multi-media features:
    1.3MP built-in webcam.

    Operating system and software:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Premium.

    €480

I know it doesn't have an i3 i5 processor but we don't play games or use and high end demanding programs.. Mostly surfing and Ms office stuff..
Could have more storage but I have a 1TB Samsung external drive..

Wouldn't have thought of Argos but herself passes daily so no shipping on top of the price..

Seems decent enough value but I've no experience of Acer laptops.. Current T30 Thinkpad is yonks old and works but needs replacing..

    Opinions welcome..

Acer are a fairly decent brand, but that is an awful price for those specs, you could get a second gen i3 based laptop, which would keep you going for many years, for about the same or even less than that, and a similar specced laptop would cost way less online. For example:

I know this has only 3GB of RAM (which is more than enough for browsing + office applications, an extra 3GB offers a relatively light user absolutely nothing) but aside from that it is very similar in specs and works out at about 350 euro inc shipping.

Or this Acer 5750 with a second gen i3 works out at 450 after shipping.
