    You can from the .com site though. Project Gutenburg has thousands of free books too. Don't know if they work on a Kindle but they work fine in the Kindle app as long as you don't mind the generic covers/lack of other features.

    I think he meant ones from the last 100 years :p

    Downloaded david copperfield to the kindle app on my touchpad got a creepy leaving cert dejavu feeling a few pages in and had to give up ;)

    a lot of the books the OP mentioned are very old books. i just linked to the full list of 4,580 free kindle ebooks (inc. all the ones the OP mentions) ordered by popularity.

    not my fault people like the oldies. ;)

    Hi all, I own a kindle and it's true if you bought your kindle here in Ireland you have to go on the amazon.com site to download your books, I used a U.K. address and registered with that one and can download from the U.K. site but regardless the US site also has loads of free books and I don't mean only old classics, there are also a lot of other sites that offer free ebooks but you have to download them to your computer and transfer them across to the kindle. I use Calibre to convert them to kindle format it's easy to use and a free download also.
