My mother tried to tell me about sex at 11, to begin she told me about a period for some reason (im a male) then got embarressed and just gave me an educational book about it. I already knew what sex was about from being told by older cousins though when i was about 9 though.

Never! They're very very closeted about sex, never came close to mentioning it when I was a kid and I'm still not sure they know exactly what it is.

Nah, they knew I wasn't a spastic and could work it out myself.

I tried to, but my parents already knew what sex was so I hardly had to tell them anything.

No and i won't be having 'the talk' with my son either.

Maybe i might say make sure you wear protection when the appropriate time comes up. But there will be no birds and bees discussion.

My Mum told me some things that were age appropriate when I was 8 or 9-periods, procreation, but I got most of my sex education from British women's magazines tbh. Sex education in school was crap.

It's a beautiful day, the sun is out, the birds are singing, the bees are trying to have sex with them, as is my understanding....

    Kinda.

Well the odd time when I was early teens my Mom would have asked do you know how...etc. Pure awkward.

But its kinda pointless really because I'd seen it by the time I was 10 or 11. As had my friends.

Didnt really understand the attraction to it until I was a little older because its thought in a very mechanical kinda of way, so you've know Idea that its pleasurable.

Dont think it needs to be taught this day and age, except a talk on contraception to teens tho they're told at school anyway.

Tl; dr; Your lazy, and no one likes you

My "talk" consisted of my dad saying keep your hand in your plumbing and you'll be grand.

What a strange thing for a father to encourage in a daughter.

I was unaware of the Cork habit of creating innuendo by misusing prepositions. It explains many of the face-slapping experiences I've had with Cork women.....

Nope, never. My mum just started saying things like, "Don't get yourself into any trouble now, you know what I mean". :pac:

No, the school yard and/or sixth class talk for us, girls given a separate talk as well. Awkward enough having a sex scene appear on the telly with parents in the room, how bad would "the talk" have been?!?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,784 ✭✭✭Superbus

Nah, my cousin told me everything when I was 10.

    She was 6.

Yeah, mam handed me a book at 10, that was it!

Leant the rest from the girls bathroom chats!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭The House Of Wolves

Learnt most of it from women's magazines and the girls. We had "THE TALK" (yes, we were sent home a sheet and it actually said THE TALK on it :o) in 6th class of a girls school. Was shocked to see that some girls didn't know anything, tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭whubee

nope i have an older brother so he must have drawn the short straw - im not entirely sure how i found out.
thinking about it, they brought a kind of mini encyclopedia into the house...at about the right time, it featured the knob the minge-piece and the whole sexification process.

    very slimy.

    their tactics i mean.

a nun tried to teach us in 6th class, i took the piss, so did others, and all the guys got kicked out and heard little, the girls stayed :S

My mom and I were in a bookshop and she walked up to me and said, "I'm buying you a book". Me, all happy thinking I was getting a new Point Horror or something, then she held out this bright-coloured yoke called "Girl Talk" by Amanda Bee. When you flipped it over the back was another book called "Boy Talk" by Peter Bird. It was then handed down among my younger siblings. Thanks Ma.

I didn't and I cringe at the thoughts of it. I'd say the only things my parents know about sex are the rhythm method and were to put it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,448 ✭✭✭✭Cupcake_Crisis

I managed to completely avoid that, thank god!

I got one of those books to... but it had a highly religious slant if I remember correctly.

Did someone tell them to go out and buy books or what. It seems like a pretty common thing.. I'd just talk to the child out straight.

    Yeah I got a book.
But then was told to only read parts of the book, because other bits ''did not apply to me at my age'' (mammy wanted me to know about periods but not about sexytime).

This obviously meant I enthusiastically read all of it, thinking there was something mega interesting Id be missing, there wasnt-I got bored. Until I hit about 16 and got interested in finding out again :D
