Bracket holding lnb arm completely rusted

Lost my satellite signal today (Sky customer) and went to check out the dish to see if there was a problem. Basically the bracket that the lnb arm is attached to is completely rusted and fell apart in my hand so it looks like I need a new dish and bracket installed.

I'm in Rush in North County Dublin, anyone cover this area that would be interested in doing the job?

They are likely to charge me a lot to fix it.
Also any dealings I've had with Sky have been frustrating to say the least.

I'd prefer to give my few quid to an independent installer who csn do the job just as well.

We recently got http://freetoair.ie to replace ours. Be sure to get a plastic one as the SKY metal ones don't last long near the sea due to rust.

you said you were a sky costumer, your on a contract ?
if you out of contract , and going to freeview go get someone private
but if you on a sky pack , they may very well fix your dish

Just rang Sky there and it's €100 charge. I'm on the basic pack, upgraded to a hd box with them recently enough but it's been over 12 months.

If anyone's interested and could do it cheaper could they contact me. I basically need a new dish and bracket for the back of the dish and maybe a lnb arm. The lnb itself is fine and obviously all wiring is ok. The dish is only around 8 feet off the ground on the wall at the front of the house so it's easy access too. The arm attached to the wall that holds the bracket and dish seems fine too so probably doesn't need replacing either.

    ring them back ,
tell them that you want to cancel your subscription/contract
    they will haggle
if they dont , cancel, wait out your month, get the missis to get new contract, new hd box, get them to fit multiple lmb

Yeah, insist on cancelling, and you'll be diverted to cancellation/retention dept.

They'll probably (though not always) offer a new dish for free.

I'll assume it's an EL minidish from a few years ago, which now seem to be falling apart as you mention, LNB arm rotting away.

Presumably it's why the arm was changed to the new Rev 4 with 3 sided bit of metal, which does seem more robust to the tubular arm (better built to sustain weight of a quad/octo too).

Took your advice guys and rang to cancel and explained the situation.
They are sending someone out on Wednesday to have a look at it.

The girl I spoke to wouldnt confrim that they would replace it f.o.c. but told me there should be no charge but engineer needs to look at it first. She said if I`m still not happy I can cancel.

So it looks like I am getting it replaced f.o.c.

Had a look on my online account and the order is up. Do they usually have an amount showing on the order if there is a charge?

Until the job is done I think. But if they said they won't charge they won't.

Guy came out this morning and put up a new dish. Checked my online account and it shows the job as being completed but no details of charges or anything.

Guess I`ll know when my bill goes out later this month. I cant remember if they can add charges on to your direct debit or if they charge seperately for extra services, credit card etc?

Anyway happy the job is done, hopefully free of charge but i wont believe it until my next payment goes out.

Thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated.:)

If you haven't agreed to being charged for the new dish, I'm not sure if they can add it to a Direct Debit?

    I'd say you're safe enough.

Just a quick update on this. Checked my mysky online account this morning and noticed a charge for €100 for the callout. However I also noticed, on closer inspection, a credit for €100 for a free service call so I did get this sorted free of charge after all.

I`d just like to thank the posters who advised me to chase Sky on this and threaten to cancel etc. I wouldnt have bothered contacting them if I had been left to my own devices.

    Anyway - result.:)
