Ireland and it being 'backwards' when it comes to sex?

Long story short.
I was reading the "do you think dublin is too "up itself" thread and the op mentioned how its backwards. It reminded me of how alot of people think Ireland is backwards when it comes to sex and got me thinking.

How is Ireland backwards when it comes to sex?

Lets be honest, alot of one night stands. Alot of casual sex going about. Hey as I post this its a saturday night / sunday morning. Dont tell me there isnt alot of casual shagging going down right now (to be blunt) So what do people mean when they say "Ireland is backwards when it comes to sex"

Like things are meant to be 100% open? So if i had a cup of coffee with a female friend it would be nothing out of the ordinary if she turned around and said how she got gandbanged by 4 guys on tuesday? ... or some guy saying how he likes his GF to use a strap on? ... like shouldnt certain things remain private?

Sure Ireland had its issues with anything sexual before. Buts its 2011. We got strip clubs, we got irish sex sites, we have more people just randomly doing it than ever ... so how are we "backwards"?

Well I imagine it isn't just Irish society that would find it out of the ordinary to talk in public about that sort of stuff to be honest.

I don't know if we're any more backwards than other countries about sex, a bit more prudish about discussing it openly probably.
Oh and the fact that we have crap sex education in schools in this country does make us a bit backward I guess.

We wouldn't be as comfortable as the Nordics for example in talking openly about sex but I think that's down to the differences in culture and the whole Catholic guilt thing still being in some peoples minds.
