What I am about to post here will sound like something out of a novel, a work of fiction if you like. An aquaintence of mine purchased a 2 year old filly early last year for €12,000. This filly ran 4 times during that season from may to august. Never reached the frame in any of these runs and was clearly of limited ability. Last September the trainer rang with the news that the filly had collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack on the gallops. Having not had the filly insured this should just have been another harsh introduction to the world of horse ownership. (On the recommendation of the same trainer another horse was purchased and as yet has not managed to get placed either). That has no bearing on what I am about to post next. Last <snip> week the dead filly ran in the 3 year old handicap <snip> for a new owner and a new trainer:eek:. Lazarus was only dead 3 days this filly was deceased for a whole year. As you imagine my friend has contacted a solicitor so I shall leave the tale at that!

No,same owner as last year. No other runners meet that criteria

For obvious reasons I'm not going to name the trainer or the filly. Not at this stage anyway. ;)

    What can I say...a leopard wouldn't beat me :P

Strange incident indeed. Any record of a sale for the filly?

I've been told that having contacted the new "owner" they maintain they bought the filly in good faith and new nothing of it's death last autumn. I can only assume the trainer sold this filly on the understanding she would be sent to the paddocks and never be seen on the racetrack again. It's baffling really, I mean how on earth did he think it would go unnoticed?

How did the change/transfer of ownership go through without your friends contribution?
I'm not actually familiar with the procedure but I'd have thought that it would be something like a car/house with the governing body (HRI) needing some sort of confirmation from the previous owner.

Well there is going to be some serious complications for the ex trainer.
Will be interesting to see how it unfolds...

No contact was ever made with him. I presume any signatures needed were forged. Although I suspect the filly was to be used for breeding and not for returning to the race track. All speculation on my part. I may be speaking to the connections later on so I'll update if and when.

Yes and quite an up and coming trainer too. My friend described him as "the nicest fellow you could meet, very helpful and always available", which makes the whole thing even more baffling.

Even if she were just to be used for breeding, i dont quite get saying she died? Keep us posted on what happens next, this isn't going to end well for the ex trainer...

Given that your friend has contacted a solicitor, I'm going to close this thread as any discussion on the situation may impede any legal case taken. C
