Optiarc DVD/CD Drive Not Spinning

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop. It has a optiarc dvd rw ad-7560 DVD/CD Drive. The problem is that it won't read any CDs or DVDs at all. It happens on Windows Vista, XP and Ubuntu so it's likely to be a hardware problem. I can press the eject button and the drive pops out. The LED also works. However, the drive does not spin. I think the motor may be the problem but I'm not sure.

Anything I can try or should I just accept it and replace the drive. The laser is almost certainly not the problem. Or the lens.

Can you swap ODD from other laptop just for test? It's SATA drive.
Maybe motor, maybe motor driver, maybe laser head, but definitely drive itself. However ODD is not worth to repair. Usually replace.

Just to make sure, you can see drive in the system, but it's not spinning any disk?

Yes. It's not a driver problem. It happens across BIOS, Vista, XP and Ubuntu. It did work once since it started happening and booted from a cd but other than that nothing. So it may be a dodgy connection.

It seems to be a dodgy connection. I took it apart and put it back together again to no avail, then I turned the laptop upside-down and it's working since. I'll have to replace it if it acts up again but for now it's fine :)
