i live alone in an apartment in an apartment on the ground floor and im in the process of looking for an apartment to move to. the reason being i have a serious fear of spiders. i cannot even look at them or i go into shock. i dont know where this fear comes from but its affecting my life. in the last week i have seen at least 8 spiders in my apt. these are no ordinary spider- they ARE HUGE! without exaggerating they are at least the size of a mouse. nobody believes me but WHAT DO I DO??? do all houses/apts get these or am i unlucky?

it's gotten to the stage where i can't sleep. there was one in my bedroom 2 nights ago and i haven't slept since. i am lying on my bed now petrified waiting to see them. i dont know what to do. im so scared. i know you might say they can't harm me but i am absolutely TERRIFIED. give me a mouse or a rat anyday but just take these freaky things away from me.

so on a final note, can i view apartments on daft on weekends? i would like to move first thing tomorrow... please help

I don't know. Perhaps apartment could apartment. You have to be apartment. There's really nothing to apartment about. Do not be afraid of apartment. I hope you apartment. In the mean time you should apartment while you apartment.

Where the hell is your apartment, in the middle of a jungle or the outback of Australia?! :pac:
I have a ground floor apartment too and have seen maybe 3 or 4 spiders at most in the 3 years I've been living here.

I hate spiders too though, so a friend of mine bought me one of these and it's brilliant. You never have to get really close to them and you can safely deposit the little feckers outside your front door without killing them.

Works a treat. I think he got it in Argos.

I live in an old house and ya wanna see the fúckers that do be crawlin around here. One of em took up residency on top of a light switch a while ago. Hadnt the heart to evict him so I just left him there. Turning on the light when going to the toilet at night was an adventure.

"...and The Spider, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door" ?

Go to southern China (or somewhere hot), the cockroaches there will make your fear of any Irish fauna disappear right nice.

I laugh now that I used to be afraid of Irish spiders as a kid, they're so slow and non-threatening it's almost comical.
The sight of lightening fast black shapes (the size of your index and forefinger together) darting from under your pillows is not pleasant.

You like r's don't you? They're everywhere... in your name, in the title of your post.

    Just like spiders everywherrre...

And I really would be concerned where you're living if they are big as you say they are.. can't you just get someone to kill them like The Spider Man?

It is the spiders mating season, so you will see plenty of them right about now. They come out into the open to 'display' for potential mates. Believe me they are not interested in you right now....;)

Spiders are good to have around, they keep the flys eaten up. You can just catch them in your palm and leave them out the window.

I am a big fraidy cat when it comes to spiders. Last Saturday night while I was watching Inception (irrelevant I know) this massive spider appeared on the wall beside me. It was the size of my hand. Thankfully my husband is not a big fraidy cat and caught the spider in a pint glass. I googled it and found it was the largest house spider in Ireland . He set it free on the road outside our house and it ran back towards our house plotting its next attack.

Flies were doing my head in coming in by coming into my room and getting retarded and forgetting where the open window was. But for the past 2 weeks there's been a spider chilling on various parts of my ceiling. Haven't noticed any flies recently. Homeboy's my homeboy, homeboy.

There's no point in moving I'm afraid. It's not going to make any difference in the slightest. Ive lived in many different houses, flats and apartments my whole life and every one of them...those giant black fast spiders appeared!

I hate them too. They scare the hell out of me BUT I dont mind "daddy long legs", they're the really skinny grey ones that tend to stay in the corners of houses. They're good for catching flies and midges and moths.

But anyway, I lived in a modern enough apartment on the first floor for years and the big black ones came to say hello every so often. Id scream the hell out of me which I did notice, that actually frightened the spider, he stopped and ran the other direction.

Just hoover and mop and dust your home regularly. Good luck.

Look on the bright side Op: if you're bitten by spiders that size you're pretty much guaranteed superpowers.

Also, what if they're not spiders, but spider babies?
Man, you'd sure look foolish then for being scared of them!

My reason of my fear of BIG spiders is the thought of them crawling over my face while Im asleep. I read before that we swallow a certain amount in our life time while we're asleep and I breathe through my mouth in my sleep so that does it for me.

And also the movie...aracnaphobia (dont know how to spell it) also traumatised me as a child.

yea then you have to get a load of dogs to get rid of them.. then bears to get rid of the dogs.. it gets messy, better off facing up to the fear of spiders.

They drink saliva from your mouth when you're sleeping.

I keep seeing this thing about people eating spiders in their sleep and i genuinely can't understand where it started.

Do people really think that spiders go looking for something to eat them? Or perhaps their is a special breed of Suispider or something.

Either way, you don't swallow spiders in your sleep.

No don't! Cats don't kill them. A cat like to play with them for awhile until it gets bored then the cat fecks off and leaves it there still alive!

I've been noticing a lot of them around lately. I think its just that time of the year for spiders. I brought a handheld vac that I use especially for spiders.
