ahh i have been driving a van for years but time to get rid and move to a car, i am not comfortable having a new baby in the passenger seat when i cant disable the airbags etc

so i guess i am looking for a family salon something that wont hammer me with tax etc. i have been looking at the avensis, mondeo and passat

Are you still going to use the car for Van-like things? An estate would be the way to go if that is the case. Or something like a ford focus c-max?

its a company van, so i cant deciede wheather to give it back or keep it and use it for work. so the car is purely for personnel use

Then get something comfy and nice to drive! I would literally go with what your heart desires in that case! That car in your first post looks nice for what it is. Go for a test drive in it and see how it feels. Have you ever bought a car before? I think the most important thing to remember is that it's you who is spending your money, don't buy something that you are uncertain about. Post here if you have any questions about reliability for a car you're interested in as well, though I've never driven that mondeo, I haven't really heard anything bad about them in general.

1.6 is underpowered and thirsty in that model Mondeo as the car is too big and heavy for it. Prices reflect how undesireable this model is these days.

Pricewise this one is a year younger at only €1k more:
