There's a hundred threads on this all ready ! I'll break it down for you , buy gal vin green !!!! Buy cheap , buy twice !
I spent over 400 in a sale for mine , and I still say it's my best golf related purchase ever . Have mine 3 years now, never had a drop of rain seep in !
Now I had 3 different rain suits before it , all claiming life time waterproof guar antes which were bull **** , they are not only 100 percent waterproof , the fit is non restrictive "made for golf " don't read anything after this post mate, just go an buy the good stuff :D

I was pissed on today for 9 holes, getting changed after the game I was bone dry under my galvin greens which is more than I could say for my playing partners , they were soaked to the bone .
One had Nike the other had kartell and I don't know what the last fella was wearing, all I know is they looked miserable .

You should be able to get a good deal over the net , personally I got mine in halfpenny golf . Ps get yourself a pair of wet gloves while your at it , they are a fantastic piece of kit .

Gonna get some wet gear myself soon, to be honest i got wet today but normally i wudnt even think of playing if i knew rain was on the way, i couldnt justify spending 400 euro on top and bottoms, theyres a couples of nike ones for about 150, im sure theyre fine? Maybe dont dry as quick as the goretex ones etc but im sure theyre still reliable

Got a right old soaking myself today in my top of the range Aldi 100% waterproof golf suit, bought it as a starter set at the beginning of summer, got caught out in heavy rain twice since and I can emphatically say that they are not worth a ****e, if the trousers arn't leaking they are giving you sweaty b....x syndrome.
I'm gonna change sooner rather than later but am not prepared to stretch for GG's.(unless nearest and dearest wants to buy for me).
Anyway was looking at proquip, I see they were wore by the european team at the last ryder cup and they sponser the european tour, you can pick up a suit in golfstoreeurope for 112e, I was wondering if anyone is using this brand and whether they are any use?

The initial high outlay of Galvin Gear stuff shouldn't be the reason people don't consider it. There is little value in buying rain gear that is great the first year and falls to pieces the next. Galvin gear will last for years if looked after I have a top going on six years it looks and works as it did on the day I bought it. There are some other good manufacturers at a cheaper price point but Galvin is the best value long term.

Good decision. Like other posters say here, I went through several cheaper versions before eventually going with GG. Now would never use anything else. It will last.

no offence but imho thats a load of balls and codswallop

As has been said there are umpteen threads on here on stuff like this

There are plenty of wetsuits on the market without gore-tex,(and/or non Galvin Green) but which are still top,top gear.

    These include
nike stormfit light & Pac Lite
    Callaway Warwick(has gore-tex)
    Mizuno Impermalite
    Stuburt Helium (value option)

a few of these are not the most recent models and can be picked up cheaply on ebay

As Scubapro's link above shows proquip also do some great gear,
The 2006 european ryder cup team used the proquip silk touch range at the K club.
As u know it pissed down quite a bit but it served them well.
it has not got gore-tex but u didn't see the RC team complaining.
Likewise the 2010 european tour team are also using the new proquip tourflex gear...again no goretex.
bide ur time on ebay, u will grab a bargain.
get dn to a shop to check out sizes.

A lot of the Galvin Green gear is great stuff, but it is by no means the bees knees. In a lot of independent tests it doesn't come out best on test

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion but calling another posters opinion balls as you so eloquently put it seems a little harsh. Its a moot point anyway as the op his made his decision and I'm pretty sure he won't regret it. I really wouldn't put much faith in magazine reviews which are primarily driven by advertising revenue and have been for years. Equipment and clothing used by Ryder cup teams wouldn't sway me either. Those are commercial deals driven by the highest bidder and not on getting the best equipment as the Americans found to their cost. As regards buying non gore-tex suits thats akin to throwing your money away I've played in non gore-tex suits and on a warm showery day they are uncomfortable to say the least, unless you like sweating bullets while playing your round. That Mizuno suit you mention is a well known sweat bucket if you search reviews online although it gets good marks in every other category. I think if you ask anyone who owns Galvin gear they'll confirm its the best out there its usually always the people who have never worn it or would never consider buying it that say its not worth it. Of course there are cheaper options but they won't last as well which I've found to my cost, they kept me dry sure, but fell to pieces on me after a year or two from getting pulled out of a bag in a hurry. Anyway this debate on Galvin Green or everything else has been done to death on these boards and the ops question has been resolved so the mods should probably close this thread.

Paid €60 for an Under Armour waterproof jacket. Led to me buying more of their products online. Not many shops in Ireland stock their clothing but from my experience it's top class for the mid level price range. It's not cheap but it's not €150-€200 for a jacket or pants individually.

I've a proquip rain jacket going on 3 years now and it's never let in a drop of rain and it only cost me €50 on ebay. It's very light too so I sometimes wear it on windy days just as a windbreaker. One of my best golf buys
Just shows Galvin Green isn't the only option.

Hallelujah so there is a decent alternative to GG's, thanks Grump

Well fair play that's a bargain. I've never had any luck with cheaper rain gear and I've tried a few different ones which is probably why i'm so biased towards Galvin.
