Is it possible to lose a college place that you've already accepted because your points have dropped following a re-check?

    No, I highly doubt it.

We were told in school to be careful about rechecking papers for fear of going down. CAO are notified of grade changes in appeals, it would make sense, if you haven't got the points requirements of the course. That said out of all the appeals in 2010 only 8 grades actually went down so it doesn't happen frequently.

But it does happen, so be mindful. It works both ways, if you go up in points you will get your place, but if you go down in points and no longer meet requirements then the place should naturally be lost.

    Its only fair id think?

By the time rechecks come back, it's mid-October, at which stage you'd be well into the year and would have paid your entry fees, accommodation, etc. You shouldn't be forced to pay the cost for the SEC's mistake, including the cost of losing a college place you've accepted.

unless it's a huge drop, they wouldn't take it away from you
