    Hi Guys,

Going to see an '95 E36 318 tomorrow, its advertised as a 318IS but its on mywheels as a 1.8 when the 318IS is a 1.9.

Is their anyway to tell the difference physically?

    Thanks

    The tax disc :)

The tax disk will probably be the most obvious if your not familiar with the engines. The 318 is 1798 or whatever cc while the 318is will be 1898cc

The 1.9 twin cam engine is a much better unit IMO.

The 318is from 92-96 had a 1.8 138hp or so engine. In mid-96, it got a revised 1.9 engine with 143bhp, better economy and updated unit.

If it is a 318i coupe however, it only has 110bhp (cant remember exact figure) and is just a coupe version of the saloon, rather than the sportier 318is.

Not framilier with BMW's at all.

My problem is it that it's registered as being a 1.8 when it should be a 1.9(If it's an IS)

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)

    Perfect thanks, it's a 318 E36 S i according to my wheels.

So would this be correct for the 138hp version?
