National Anthem debate

:eek:Myself and a few freinds were in the pub the other night and talking about the rugby and its almost a ritual that we have this argument every time the six nations comes up!

Why on earth do we not play the national anthem at away matches, while I realise this is purely political,I think the argument for not playing it is compleate rubish.surely for the same reasons we shouldnt be playing it for home matches either!

I know it might not be the "anthem for the entire team" but I doubht their offended by having it played either,At the same time I do beleive thier is atleast a psycological advantage to be gained by it aswell. The whole idea to play the anthems before the match is to get the team pumped up,it builds a sense of togetherness and a sense of us angainst them and always helps to prepare the player mentally for the game.

On a wet windy night in NZ against the Italians or Aussies when the lads line out for the crunch games of the group,Youll see tears of passion in the opposing teams shouting their lungs out griping each other tightly.Irelands call doesnt evole the same emotions to any of the players let alone the "nordies",some of the will just stare blankly looking half constitpated.

Im sure im not the only one that finds it disturbing that the tri coulour wont even be flying in sight theyll be standing infornt of a awful looking flag with 4 crests on it.

It's played at home matches as a sign of respect to the president.

The players always seem to be singing Irelands Call relatively enthusiastically, the only time I can remember seeing the camera shot of going down the line and people not singing is during the Am...<?however you spell it?>.

Nobody would be offended if GSTQ were to be played either then? It's not the anthem for the entire team, but ... :D:D:D

Maybe they should just have a GB rugby team

Cant stand Ireland's call. Bloody pop song.. If I am at a match I sit down when it comes on. I think we should play the 2, seeing as NZ are allowed to have their anthem and the haka.

Drop the two and just go for God Save the Queen. Sounds fair.

So when we qualify for the final and see goes over, will they play it then?

Its not paid out of respect for the president. If it was the presidential salute would be played. That is the first four bars and last five bars of the anthem without lyrics.
