my friend has a 2006 vauxhall astra life 1.3 cdti estate. today he fitted a towbar himself but wants help with the wiring. there is a seperate fuse panel in the back with an extra connection for a towbar. rather than splice the wires like the old days we want to use this one. my question is does this plug need to be…

my friend has a 2006 vauxhall astra life 1.3 cdti estate. today he fitted a towbar himself but wants help with the wiring. there is a seperate fuse panel in the back with an extra connection for a towbar. rather than splice the wires like the old days we want to use this one.
my question is does this plug need to be reprogrammed by a dealer or can he just buy a connection to plug in and it will work straight away. i have heard he needs a smartbox installed so he can connect the wires to a caravan.
any help is greatly appreciated
